Blessings!
Our week is quite long as we have many projects happening at once.
This week is our fellowships VBS. I am not able to help, but my girls help to teach for the week each year. Today I was able to spend the morning at VBS with our goats:) You see, our fellowship is raising money for a remote impoverished village in India to buy each family a pair of milk goats and several breeding bucks (for obvious reasons):). The children bring a small offering each day and they have been talking to the children about what it's for. Since most of them are quite young they wanted to give them something visual so they would know for sure what it was all about. We had planned to take one of our Nubians and a Nigerian doe but our Nubian came down sick this morning so we took all three of the Nigerians instead. I think I'm glad cuz our morning was much more eventful and changed dramatically in the blink of an eye:s
My son and husband had strapped our travelling pen onto the top of the truck. This morning we loaded the Nigers in the back along with their gear and left at 8am. We are nearly at the offramp from the freeway when the panels explode off the top of the pickup and shatter across the freeway (two lanes and shoulder)! We are so VERY thankful that the man behind us was as far away as he was. We assume he saw them lifting and held back just in case. He avoided the debris and whizzed past us seemingly unconcerned. We pulled over as soon as we could and got up top to see what had happened. There were two little corners left of the panels still strapped down:( This was going to leave us with nothing:(
We drove back on some backroads to our local farm supply and praise the Lord they were open! We went in and I purchased 3 sheep panels (not as nice as what we had built but they would do the job) and they loaded them up on the pickup.
On our way back (and now about 20 minutes late) we were driving through the town before where our fellowship is and this man, driving an old corvaire, came rocketing out of a sidestreet on the left side of me into what is the double yellow line waiting area for merging. There is a logging truck on my right just at my truck bed and this man didn't even slow down, he jetted right over and in front of me! I slammed on my brakes and with nowhere to go I said, "Please Jesus!" and the brakes suddenly caught and stopped us! (The brakes on this pickup do NOT work quickly) The little Nigers were none the worse for wear and the man, who didn't even seem to notice, just drove on at roughly 20 miles an hour (in a 55 zone):( At this point I wanted to turn around and go home...what else could happen!?!
The morning went well, the children really enjoyed the goats, the Nigers really enjoyed the children and the grain treats we let them feed to them:). I got REALLY sunburned:( Afterward we loaded up the goats and panels and started for home.
We got nearly halfway home (driving all the backroads of course) and there is a little vintage bridge that is under repair so we had to poke out onto the freeway for several miles, to the next exit, so we could get back onto the backroad again to finish our trip home. We get off the free way and as I try to downshift it won't come out of 5th gear! I slow to a stop at the light and play with the shifter to nudge it out of gear and two greenlights later along with about 15 cars behind us I decided to gun the engine and pop the clutch to get it to the other side so we can play with it. The clutch smoke was sooooooo smelly and black:( I thought for sure I had burned the clutch out. After nearly 10 minutes of playing with it and it dying several times, it finally got out of 5th and we were on our way again. THIS time being quite careful to NOT go higher than 4th:P
Needless to say, after a lengthy nap this afternoon, I am so very blessed to be home, so very blessed that no one was hurt at all, so very blessed that the Nigers behaved and so did the children and now I think I will never leave home again:P
This evening we will be sewing our costumes for the tea this coming Saturday and decorating our hats.
It's been a very long day, I'm still sunburned and my eyeballs feel like sandpaper (I wear contacts), and with Brother Craig off to his job this evening the girls and I will be making our usual fun supper:)
So that was my day:) Have a blessed evening. God bless each one of you real good.
God be with thee!
Sister Lori
