A little sad newsBlessings! I had hoped to get a bit more time to write but it got so late so I'll just say a few things quickly and hopefully be able to write more in the evening. We got a bit of bad news late this evening (which is why I was unable to get back to write anything). As I had shared before, we had one of our Nigerian Dwarf does get what appeared to be an abcess and we had to take her to the vet to culture it. This evening we got a phone call from the vet. He said he felt so badly that we hadn't been contacted yesterday so he wanted to phone us himself. He let us know that her biopsy came back positive for CL:( This was not the news we had hoped for. In the morning, we will contact the folks that sold her to us and they are going to have to have their entire herd tested. We only have 6 other goats to test but these folks have over 70! This will be the second time for them as they had CL invade their herd four years ago when they had to cull more than half their herd. Who knows how far this has gone:( For us, we will have to cull her tomorrow first thing. So sad for us as she was quite well liked here. We had, thankfully, taken her out of the herd before her abcess actually burst so the only contamination that we are aware of is her holding pen which we will have to disinfect and sterilize with a very very strong bleach wash tomorrow. All the feeding supplies will be burned along with all bedding and the wooden sleeping platform. Then we will have the vet come out to draw blood on all the remaining goats and run a serum test on them. We have already gone down and prayed over the animals but we will pray over the vet before the draw and over the animals afterwards as well. We will continue to be in prayer until the serum results come back. I ask that anyone who reads our blog, please pray for us if you think of it. We just pray that our herd is clean and that there will be no ill effects beyond this one doe. We are praying for the Lords will to be done above and beyond what WE want. We just pray that it's His will to protect them and us from the effects of this disease. It's terribly late so I'll say goodbye for now. Thank you for your prayers and thoughts. God be with thee!
