Getting Better & Groceries

Thank you for your prayers for our health.  I think we are finally getting better.

Today Jason and Christopher are staying close to their beds.  I am feeling a little bit better.  My head has stopped the constant pounding, although it comes and goes.  The cough is a little better also.  I'm feeling like I can maybe function but I am really wiped out.

Groceries...  been giving this subject a lot of thought!  I've been reading on a forum about shopping every 3 months and one family even does this only once a year.  I HATE shopping!  I hate grocery shopping, clothes shopping...you name it...I hate spending money!

I've been giving the 3 month plan a lot of thought.  We have our own meat, milk, eggs and a lot of things I have canned.  This week my daughter and I are going to go and take inventory of everything we have stashed in the pantry and freezers.  We belong to a co-op that we go to weekly.  I'd like to get to the point where I only spend money and go shopping in the outside store every 3 months and then do the co-op weekly.  Most of the co-op items are perishables.  I'm making up a menu for the next three months.

Tonight we are have a breakfast casserole for dinner because we have milk and eggs to use up and I had thawed out some sausage to cook up that never got used.  I'll probably make some rolls with it and make fry up some potatoes.

I'm still looking for recipes that don't have soy in them and are inexpensive.

UPDATE:

Well I've decided to set a goal for our groceries for the rest of the month:

Well I'm starting half way through the month.  The buget for the rest of the month is $65 for the 7 of us.
$45 of that is for my co-op dues.  Then $10 a month for milk or misc.

I think I can do it.  I'm working out rotating some of my cupboards out.

The only thing I really miss is beef.  I wish I could trade some goat, pork or lamb with someone for some nice cuts of beef!

I'm trying to decide if I should include our duck, chicken and goat feed in with the grocery cost since they are directly related.  If so that would be another $50.  Our feed bill is really high this winter, corn is up and even though my birds free range, there just isn't many bugs or roughage for them to eat in this cold weather.
