The ol' homestead

In my last post I mentioned my mothers whimsy garden. It is an area on her homestead where she has made little sections of flowers, plants and homemade projects that are divided by walkways. She has made some cute recycled projects. Some include: a cow made from a old washbin, bird feeders from wooden spindles and tea cups, helmut ladybugs, tipsypots, and various things we think up. This latest project is a bowling ball-gazing ball that I made for her birthday (ok, I really made me one first ) Mine is the one shown here in cobalt blue and it sits out in the flower garden on a big rock and looks so pretty when the sun hits it. I made moms with green stones and it is really pretty too. We really love to take useless broken junk and turn it into cute re-usable items for the garden. This is really calledjunk gardening and you know what?, it is getting very popular. Just check out junkmarketstyle and you will see there are some really cute ideas. Anyway, since I run across some of these ideas on the forum at garden web, I share them with mom and we make some pretty fun/cool stuff. When I am up at her place the next time I will try to take a few pictures of the whimsy garden so you can have a peek.

Here is the bowling ball getting it's shell of stones (fyi -use clear silicone glue, the first time I used gorilla glue and when it was sitting in the hot sun the stones fell off )

Hint: I checked with my local kids play zone where they have bowling and asked for chipped or damaged balls, in which they were glad to give me as many as I wanted for FREE!
