The ol' homestead

Mitts done and more

05:43, Tuesday, October 31, 2006 .. Posted in Sewing .. 1 comments .. Link

I finally got those baking mitts done and they turned out pretty useful as I already
put them to good use tonight when I was making some pumpkin spice cookies. They
passed the test as I did not get burned picking up the hot cookie sheet.

There is nothing like seeing good ol' lifelong friends after a long absence.
For me, seeing Cathy again has really been nice.  She is alot like me and we have
seen each other grow and change over the years but have always managed to find each
other again through the years.
She and I are currently working on some Christmas stockings for her family...and
catching up on some old times as well. She has also gave me a good laugh this week
with her laundry soap making. She changed the amounts a bit and wound up having
some REALLY thick soap. Too thick to pour from the container. Ahhh.... all us newbies,
don't you just love us? hahaha

Well, here on my homestead, in Oklahoma the weather has gotten chilly and I am having
a hard time hanging out laundry now, but I am still using it on nice days. Another
great use I have found for that sunshine line is that it really comes in handy when
I am taking pictures for my ebay listings. It holds material great as well as clothes!
The garden is all gone and getting ready for Winter cover. My mums are blooming
though and so is my Lion's Tail, but that is about all. We are happy that we
are off the burn ban anyway, and we are planning our first weenie roast of the year,
next week. YEE-HAW!

The pups are growing and dh is not working with them as much now but we are hoping
that they will adapt just fine when the chicks arrive in the Spring. They have been
with a full grown hen -but ya know how irresistable a chick must seem to a pup.
Guess we will just have to wait and see. I plan on getting some more Buff Orphingtons
as I just loved them easy going hens. I had some Rhode Island Reds a few years ago
and they were the flightiest birds -always being spooked and running from something.
Boy, wouldn't the pups love them!

Dh has been frequenting a junk store in a nearby town on the week-ends. They have
alot of old memorabilia stuff and this last Saturday he brought home an old magazine
called "The American Magazine " from June 1927. Boy, have we been having
a fun time laughing at all the advertisements in it. You should see the fancy new
stoves and fridges from that era! lol. Some pretty cool  articles too.

Well, enough rambling for now..... have a great Halloween!
