Saccharine Pickles

Yes, you read it right, a saccharin pickle recipe. As I was reading through the new 1952-53 Edith Hansen Kitchen Club Recipes collection book that I bought at Junk City this week-end, this is one of the recipes I ran across... OH MY GOSH.... saccharin?!

These poor housewives in 1952 did not even have a clue !!!

So here you are in case you get a big hankerin' for a nice jar of cancer saccharin pickles, you will know how to whip up a batch!

2 tsp salt and 1/2 tsp saccharine in the bottom of a 1/2 gallon jar. Fill jar with freshly washed cucumbers. Add 2 tsp salt and 2 tsp spices on top: fill jar with cold vinegar and seal.

Do not use saccharine tablets as they are not sweet enough.

Hmmmmm.....

pickles anyone?
