Ok so I am home with the children and we are preparing for round 3, our 3rd major snow storm. The first storm brought us 20 couple inches, this past storm my husband said we had between 3 and 4 ft of snow, we also lost power for about 36hrs, now we prepare for round 3 which is to bring us another 1-2 ft of snow plus heavy winds, which of course could mean more loss of power for us. Am I panicked? Nah, the only thing I am worried about right now is that dh went to work today and I just hope he makes it home before it gets too bad out there, as it is the main roads look pretty good but we live out off any main roads and they haven't been plowed yet, probably won't be for sometime. As far as supplies go we are doing pretty good, we are ready, I need to make some fresh tea and I promised the boys we would make cupcakes today before the storm hit,I will get all those preps done early this day before the storm hit and we have the chance to lose power, but all in all we are ready. I hope all those in the path of the storm are prepared and safe!! Blessings!! Dana |

Time is just speeding by isn't it? Anyway being home on Saturday because of the weather turned to be a good thing, with hubby home I was able to nap when the baby napped and boy let me tell you what a blessing that way, I felt so much better yesterday!! I was also able to work on our dinner menu for the month!! An ENTIRE MONTH of dinners figured out!!! Sunday we were able to go out and do some shopping, I went to walmart for the bulk of what I needed, I did forget a few things but that is ok I still need to buy the meats we need for the month plus my mom wants me to take her to the new Aldi's in town as she has never been so we will be doing that tomorrow, so I will be able to pick up the rest of what we need probably this week!! All in all I spent 146.55 not too bad really. I got: 17lb bag of dogfood I spent 146.55 and I used only 3.00 in coupons |

LOL Ok so all week long they said a storm was coming, a storm was coming, etc, etc, BUT what they wouldn't say was how much snow and or ice we were in for. FINALLY when they did say, it was said we would get a dusting, at the most 1-3 inches nothing more, no big deal. I had discussed with the hubs if we should go shopping on Friday after school, before the storm hit, we looked at the weather report and decided no that we would wait and do all our errand running on Saturday as a family, because the storm was supposed to be nothing really. Well I got up yesterday morning and it started to flurry by around 8:45, then by 9 am the ground was completely covered and its snowing outside like we are on the verge of an ice age.......................You know where this is going right? Anyway we get dressed get ready to go, bundle up the littles and hop in the truck, we are thinking and discussing that the snow is really coming down, but they are only calling for 1-3 inches max so you think it will be alright to go out? Yeah we assure ourselves it will max out at 3 inches we will be fine and continue to back out of the driveway, we get out of the neighborhood just fine, turn onto the main road and the truck does this weird fish tailing, turn it to the left but it goes right, kind of craziness , dh corrects the truck before we end up through someones chain length fence and I look at dh and say so umm.... do you think we should go back home and dh says to me Uh Yeah that is exactly what we are doing!! So we continue down the main road ok, we figure it would be easier to take another road that circles around and back into our subdivision and so we are traveling along fine and when he goes to turn again the tires lock up or something and we narrily avoid hitting a utility pole, needless to say once we were back home we were bummed about not to be able to be getting out of these 4 walls but Big Daddy and I were happy the littles were safe. Of course my only other dilemma is that I let everything run low. Not EVERYTHING but I am out of bread and eggs and dogfood, low on milk, etc. I thought we were going shopping yesterday because the weather man said we would get practically nothing and the storm was going WAAAAYYYYY south of us. He miscalculated or well the storm faked him out because we are sitting on about 6-8 inches of the white stuff that has a icy base to it. No big deal we got creative!! I searched the net for a recipe and found one that turned out great. Which leads me to another funny story. About 6 yrs ago my gram gave us her bread maker, my mom had bought it for her years ago but gram gave it to me and told me to hang onto it- thats a crazy story all on its own ya just gotta know my gram anyway mom knew I had it and that was ok because mom already had one and I didn't well I never reallly used the thing, I made all my bread doughs using the KA so I stored it, when we moved here I packed it up and brought it along. Jump ahead 4 years....... one fall my mom's bread machine died so she asked if I was using grams I told her no, she asked if I could bring it over to her, ok no problem, dh went out and searched and searched for it never found it, convinced me and mom that I had already taken it back when we moved, well ok mom looked at her house but never found it, I forgot all about it. This fall we were out in the storage building looking for our crib and such so we could get ready for the baby coming and lo and behold dh found the Bread machine, we called mom all of us had a big laugh because she said we are trying to convince her that she is crazy, lol Well I had dh bring it in yesterday and after finding a recipe online and cleaning up the bread machine it made THE BEST bread we have had in a long time, dh said we might have to convince mom that we already brought the bread machine back because he could eat that bread I made yesterday every day!! I'm thinking that I need to either price out a bread maker and return my moms or I need to perfect my bread making using the KA, because it was honestly the best hm bread either of us had ever ate!! So there ya go, A botched weather report, a scary ride, cabin fever, funny family antics and hm bread, don't let it be said this blog lacks substance, lol Have a great Sunday with your family!! |

I had originally planned to go grocery shopping this coming saturday, but then looking at the weather forcast this is what I saw: Tonight: Snow, possibly mixed with rain before 7pm, then snow between 7pm and 1am, then snow, freezing rain, and sleet after 1am. Low around 28. East wind between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible. ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO I don't know about you but something tells me I am not going anywhere on Saturday huh? And after I talked to the hubs on the phone this morning, he was pretty much of the opinion that I needed to go get my shopping done today and then get by butt home. Yep I am pretty sure I am home bound, but we will see!! So anyway here is the menu for next week!! Not in any order: Pork Shoulder Roast, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts |
|
We will be eating out of the freezers and the pantry this week. Like alot of people we are trying to shave $$ off the grocery bill. I did stop last night and pick up milk, bread, chips for dh's and oldest's lunch, a box of honey buns- treat for youngest ds, a bag of apples, I think that is all. Monday 1/18: Hm canned soup( canned by me this past summer) and either crackers, corn muffins, hot rolls or grilled cheese Tuesday 1/19: Ham ( dh's gram baked us a huge one when the baby was born and dh cut it up in managable pieces and froze it for later use) fried potatoes, eggs. I am also going to make a pot of soup beans on this day for lunches for me the rest of the week. Wednesday 1/20: Lasagne rolls (from freezer, made before baby was born), hm bread Thursday 1/21: Roast chicken pieces, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans Friday 1/22: Taco's with all the fixings Saturday 1/23: Hamburgers, potato skins Sunday 1/24: Pizza courtesy of Digiorno- they sent me some free pizza coupons |

LOL ok so I have been up since 4:45, which is not that big of a deal except we didn't go to bed till 10:45 and 4:45 wasn't the first time I had gotten up. I'm guessing I got maybe 4-5 hours of sleep, albeit a broken up 4-5hrs of sleep but sleep none the less. We were busy all weekend so nothing got done around here but that is ok, lucky for me I have a very understanding hubby, the boys don't care that my household chores aren't done as long as they have my attention whenever they ask for it or need me, and plenty of yum for their bellies when they are hungry. And of course baby girl is content with a clean dry butt, and full tummy and lots of hands to hold and love on her. Did I mention that baby girl is 3 weeks old today? In the grand scheme of things, life is good!! We haven't really settled into any sort of schedule but that's ok, for right now, "its" working for us. Things may get a little hectic here and there but for the most part its ok its working and we are all good!! I am going to work on getting a few things done around here today. My focus will be laundry. I have the washer and dryer going now, but there is plenty more that needs to be done. I am guessing at least 4 loads maybe more. I would also like to straighten up around here today, but I think that will wait till nap time. Ok so there is a little update. |
|
Updates and pics coming soon!! We are all ok, baby girl is... just ...well.... awesome!! Be back soon!! Dana |

Wow!! It feels weird to be writing 2010!! Lots of visiting family, Christmas celebrations, New years eve and then New years Day oh and did I mention the birth of our Baby Girl? Oh I love the holidays but without a doubt our little girl joining our family was definately the highlight of the past weeks activities!! She is just as precious as she looks and just as loveable, snuggly, and smoochable as you can imagine!! Daddy is a very proud peacock!! He has been super awesome doing practically everything he can to make recovery and transition easy on all of us!! He has been on top of the cooking, dishes, laundry, housework, taking care of the boys, taking care of the baby and even taking care of me!! I have definately been given the royal treatment since she has come home to join us!! I told him just this morning as he was fixing sausage cakes, pancakes and eggs for the boys that he better slow down a bit or he would find that he had a new weekend job. ~smile~ The boys are totally smitten with her, they can't seem to get enough and the only bickering that we have had and mind you its been very very little is when they fuss over who's turn it is to hold her, or to get mommy this or that for the baby. I told the hubby we were going to have to be careful or they may just chap her little cheeks with all the smooches they have been giving her, ~smile~ but she doesn't seem to mind one bit and seems to love having them around doting on her!! We have been beyond blessed with family and neighbors bringing meals and snacks for us,The food has been great and wonderful tasting and what a help its been to just go warm something up. I am just not used to having all this attention and help. It definately takes some getting used to!! Now that the new year is here, of course there are plans to make and things to organize. We have started thinking about this years garden, All the seed catelogs arriving in the mail sure makes it easy to dream!! We hope to gleen even more than we were able to last year, not sure if that will be easier or not with a little one on board but we are willing to give it our best shot. Dh and I were just discussing last week how much we produced and how much it would have cost to purchase that same amount of veg at the market and it really is amazing how much you can save money wise growing your own garden. Maybe I will keep better records this year and actually come up with a total. I start out well with keeping track then it seems like the garden explodes and we work like maniacs to stay of top of the picking and preserving then all record keeping flys out the window. Another area I hope to do better on is grocery shopping and taking advantage of coupons, I do pretty well right now but there is always room for improvement!! Well I guess that catches me up for now, I hope to be back soon with more updates, but if I am not, you will know that I am home surrounded by my family and we are snuggling and loving on our new baby girl!! Dana |

Wishing you the Merriest of Christmases!! from our family to yours!! |
|
And I am just about ready, lol NO seriously I only have like 5 presents to wrap, two of those needs finished, although it shouldn't take long to get that done. I have a batch of cookies to bake and a batch of apple bread to make then once that is done I just need to assemble the gift baskets I have a few dishes to make between now and the weekend for various get togethers but nothing to involved or time consuming. Then come monday baby girl should be here!! And hubby will be home with us for a while!! We are all excited, with christmas and a new baby, wow how could you not be!!! |
|
Ya know shoveling snow for 2 days and playing in the snow is enough to wear a body out!! And I have proof!! As I was baking christmas cookies yesterday I heard my little guy say I want to be hold, which means he wants to cuddle, daddy was more than happy to oblige, after a while I wondered into the livingroom and this is what I found, the both of them sound asleep!! After all that snow shoveling and playing in the snow they both deserved a good rest!! Our oldest seemed unaffected by the snow's ability to really take it out of ya and spent the afternoon playing a computer game.
Just to give you an idea of how much snow we got, here is a pic of my truck, on Saturday dh measured the snow in our front yard somewhere between 3 and 4 pm and said we had 19 inches and it continued to snow hard until a little after 9 that night.
Boy there is alot of snow on top my truck!!! |
|
Ok on the baking front I have so far baked: 1 dozen apple cinnamon muffins 6 dozen chocolate chip cookie Still on the list: Peanut butter cookies Apple bread Oh and the snow? Somewhere between 3 and 4 pm yesterday my hubby measured the snow at 19 inches in our front yard, and it continued so snow like crazy until a little after 9 last night. My dear hubby worked himself into a very sore and painful back working on clearing out our driveway all the while it was snowing yesterday, because of me being so close to delivering, he was worried I might go into labor and we would be snowed in. He takes such good care of us!! How blessed we really are!! This little girl doesn't know it yet but her daddy is the best!! |
|
We are homebound today, its snowing like crazy out there!! The hubs says there is at least a foot of snow already with no end in sight, its snowing hard and supposed to snow harder this evening and into the night. The poor hubs is out in this mess trying to snowblow the driveway, I feel for him being out there in all of this mess. Wishing I could help him but I know that won't happen, he's afraid I might slip and fall and to be honest I don't want to take that chance either!! So since I can't be outside I figured I would take this oppertunity to get some baking done!! Regular baking plus Christmas baking!! For regular baking I am working on muffins, once they are baked and cooled I will freeze them for quick breakfasts and easy snacks for after the baby is here!! I plan on baking: Apple Cinnamon Muffins And since the snow is blowing and since an email from my friend Tiffani where she said she is making a big pot of chili I am now wanting chili so I think I might make some hm rolls or some corn bread muffins to go along with a good hot bowl of chili and beef veg soup!! I canned some over the summer so at least that much of dinner is done just need to make some hot bread of some sort to go with it!! As far as Christmas baking goes I plan on making: Chocolate chip cookies I might not get to it today but if not today then tomorrow I will make some apple bread, zuchinni bread and some pumpkin bread also for christmas gifts!! So that is the plan for today. Baking and staying warm!! |
|
Ok so I just called the dr's office to tell them I am out of meds and still sick, I deliver in a little over a week and I just so don't want to be sick when this little one arrives. Hopefully I can get over this soon and be ready for when she gets here!! |

Just 2 more weeks to go!!

My oldest has a 2 hr delay so we are just hanging out together till time to catch the bus!! My plans for today are to not work myself silly, after yesterday I am kind of tired but I still have things that need doing. Speaking of yesterday it was a busy day for us, I took my youngest to his great grandma's house where he spent the day helping her bake her special once a year christmas cookies. Then I picked up my mom and we took my oldest to school, then I had to get gas, go to the dr for a baby check up~ everything is fine by the way, then we went shopping to 2 different places, then to lunch then to another dr appt for me~ no change in the pressure behind my eyes and no problems to report so I guess that is good news as well, then because my eyes were dialated my mom drove us to do more shopping, picked up my dad's prescriptions, then one more store to shop then back to my mom's house quick to drop off her stuff, then I picked up my youngest and then back to the bus stop to pick up my oldest, whew what a whirlwind day. The good news is I think all my shopping is done except for some gc's that I need to pick up!! Needless to say I am tired today and well pretty worn out still from yesterday but I do still have things that need done!! I plan on getting things done but taking my good sweet time to get them done!! Hope you have a great day!! Dana |

Here are the pics of the boys decorating the tree. Most of the ornaments are all bunched together, dh and I agreed to wait till the boys go bed tonight and then "fix" the tree but ya know after looking at it and how proud they are of it we are going to leave it just as they put it together!! We think they did a great job!! See what you think..... The boys working on the tree together: Colby working on the tree: Brady working on the tree: Their Masterpiece: Brady : Colby: My boys...Aren't they cuties?: |
|
For the most part that is the plan for today!! We do need to run out to take away the garbage but after a short trip out we will be home all of us together!! Our plan for today is to straighten up a bit then this afternoon/evening we plan on putting up our christmas tree!! The boys are soooooooo excited and we couldn't have picked a better day because its snowing outside!! I have a few loads of laundry to move through today as well but nothing pressing. Dinner tonight will be hubby's favorite!! Fried Chicken, mashed potatoes with pan gravy and green beans!! Depending on how the day goes I might even make some hm bread!! Well that is it for me, I hope to get some pics once we get the tree up!! Oh and I haven't forgot about taking pics of the baby's blanket I made either, I will get it done!! Have a great day!!! |
