Another nasty day

Well, it is another nasty day in Arkansas. So much for nice spring weather. I suppose we are getting those April showers that bring May flowers. However, it is also bringing lots of nastiness. Our garage has flooded again. Fortunately, Andrew had cleaned it out a couple of weeks ago. Since it has flooded several times since we moved here, we got everything of worth up off the floor. When he cleaned it out recently, he threw out quite a bit that was ruined from previous floods. But, mostly it wasn't anything of value. Just some of that junk that I was talking about in another post. I had intended to take before and after photo's, but he decided one day while I was at work, and my parents were here to do the work. So I didn't get any before photo's to show just how much junk was in there. Unfortunately, we still have storage sheds to clean out and rid of junk before we can be completely downsized and organized. Back to the weather. As I have mentioned here before, I suffer from SAD. The weather affects my moods. And all of this rain and no sun, has really gotten to me. I am so ready to get outside and see the sun again. It seems like forever since it hasn't been yucky weather. Yesterday it didn't rain, but was cloudy all day, and because of the previous rains, the yard is nasty and uninhabitable right now. My mom now has a brace and cast on her arm, and will be taking bone building treatments for a few weeks to try to build up the bone. She has early stages of Osteoporosis, I forget what it is called, anyway, she has to take bone building meds and treatments because of the break. She is miserable because she isn't one to sit still. And she can't stand a messy house. My dad, well, lets just say my dad is slightly messy and as my mom says, worse than ten children. So she is upset with the fact she can't really do anything. Although she is trying. I called the other day and she was trying to sweep, and do dishes. So somehow she is doing a little bit. Megan is there and trying to help some. I will probably go down there in a couple of weeks and get Megan. But she is having such a great time, I know she isn't going to want to come, no matter when I go get her. Not that she doesn't want to come home. It is just that while she is there she gets to play with her cousins, which she can't do here. And at 12 almost 13, she is pulled between growing up and being a child. She still loves to play and be carefree and not have to try to be mature and grownie like most preteens try to be. So when she is here, she feels pressure from her friends to be teenish and abandon her childish play. We don't put pressure on her at home, because I understand that childhood is fleeting and you spend most of your life as an adult with adult responsibilities. So I want her to enjoy childhood while she can. But her friends don't feel that way. So when she is in Louisiana, she gets to enjoy the country, being outside and playing with her younger cousins and friends that still like to play and be kids. Since we have moved back to the city, she hardly gets to get outside, because our yard is so small and very little to explore. But in Louisiana there are lots of outdoor things to explore. There are horses to ride, 4 wheelers and tractors. And people that she has known and loved for years. We use to live where my parents live. The land was part of what my great-grandfather bought back in 1920 or so. My girls were the 5th generation of my family to have lived on some of the original 160 acres that he purchased. So it is like going home for her. Now the land is divided up and several other family members live on different parts of it. Some of the land is field, and some is wooded. Two of the original houses on the property when my Great-Grandpa purchased it, are still standing. One was torn down several years ago. My grandma lived in the main house until a few months before her death at 93 last year. I really dread seeing that one torn down. So many wonderful memories there. But it is going down and will have to be taken down at some point. There are two of seven of my grandma's siblings left. As long as they are living, my cousin, who owns the house won't tear it down. Well, I have to get up and do something today. It is already nearly 9:00 and all I have done is write this post. Well, I have done a few little things, but nothing substantial. So I must pry myself from this chair and get moving inspite of the nasty weather outside. Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 21 of 159 } { Next Page } |
