Longgggg time no blog

Well, it has be too long since I have updated.  Let's see; Lauren is working part-time, Porsche is staying with us and will be leaving on the 10th of August, Mom and Dad are coming next week, also a friend of mine from Kentucky is coming to visit.  I haven't seen her in over three years.

The garden is, well, I have tons of tomatoes, and okra.  I have put up several jars of salsa and plan to try my hand at tomato paste or ketchup.  I have also put up okra in the freezer and snap beans.  I am drying peppers and I pickled some peppers for my husband.  I had some eggplants and squash that we have already eaten.  I will also have loads gourds to dry and decorate.  I planted two kinds, that is all I could find around here, hopefully next year I will think of it in time to order other types of gourd seeds from the internet.  I also have some sunflowers, and plenty of cabbage for the bunnies.  The weeds are taking over some of the garden and I am fighting that.  I just haven't had the time I had hoped to get out there and keep it all up.  But this is the first year that a garden has been planted there, so hopefully in a couple of years it will do much better.

The goats are doing well, and the pigs are getting fat!  My husband plans to butcher them in a couple of months.  So that will put pork in the freezer for a while.  The chickens are well.  We had 10 eggs that the hen was sitting on, but only 5 hatched and survived.  Then something happened to 2 of them, so we actually came out with 3 chicks.  They are getting big and doing well.  I am waiting for the other hens to start laying.  But nothing yet.  I am a little disappointed in them, but I guess they will lay when they feel like it is time.

The bunnies are doing well, however Johnny got out of his cage last night and when we came home from church he was missing.  We got a flash light and looked all over the backyard and couldn't find him.  I decided to walk around to the front in case he got through the fence, and sure enough, he was under the trampoline.  We caught him fairly easily and put him back.  So we rested much better knowing he was safe.   In a couple months he will be old enough to breed.  Carson, our female is already old enough, so we are looking forward to little bunnies.

We are also looking for a registered Boer buck so that we can breed 4 of our goats, so we can have babies in the spring.

Noah is growing so fast.  He is walking now, and getting into everything!  He is such a joy.  He turned 10 months on the 13th and started walking everywhere the next day.  He had been taking a few steps for a while, but the day after he turned 10 months, he took off!  He is increasing his vocabulary also.  He says dada, mama, baba, bird, dog, good, bye bye, sugar, and other things that sound like he is trying to say the things we are saying.  Like "get up"  We usually go to Megan's room first in the morning and tell her to "get up" and then to Lauren's room to tell her to "get up".  We are all enjoying him so much.

Well, can't think of much else, oh, I almost forgot, I am starting a worm farm... Now don't laugh at me like my kids did.  But I want to have some good organic, well, worm droppings to put in the garden.  It is called worm castings and it does a garden good.  So I have my box ready and I plan to add the worms this weekend.  I'll keep you updated on how it goes.

Megan is interested in quilting so we got some fabric and she has her squares cut out, and I am going to show her how to sew them together.  She is excited about it.

I think I am going to do a yard sale Saturday.  I have tons of baby clothes and things to get rid of.  I took some to the consignment shop, but have so many things that I don't have enough hangers and they require hangers for everything.  So I will try a yard sale.  Wish me luck!

Oh and I almost forgot..... It is RAINING!!!!!! Thank God, I had almost forgotten what rain was like.  I hope it rains all night and for a few days ahead.  The temp is in the 70's, which is heaven and it is RAINING!!!!!
