Happy Spring and Happy Traveling

It seems that spring is very near !!! I have never been more ready . I guess you could say we have have of all the garden areas completely till and rowed .We plan to plant seeds and plants on Good Friday . Just a good rule around the south to avoid late frost or freezes .

I was looking over my tip book .Since many of you will be spring breaking and traveling this summer .I found some travel tips to share with you .

Give and Take : At the start of the trip give each child a handful of quarters(or roll) . If they ask "How much farther?" or any other tiresome questions , they forfeit a quarter . Let them keep what is left for the trip .

Single Bag : If an overnight stop is on your car trip itinerary ,pack one small bag w/change of cloths and basic toiletries for each family member. Instead of one for each person ,and keep from unpacking the whole trunk.

Windows Closed : Drive with the windows closed .Open windows mess up aerodynamics and cost you more in gas mileage than running the air conditioner. Anything will help to save gas !!!!

I guess that is about it for now . I am having problems with my ears .I guess the sinus infection has settled in my ears . I have had fever since last night . I feel ok but my ears are stopped up . It had all got better for a few days . I have fought a sinus cold for 2 weeks . And now this  with my ears . I was trying to avoid going to the doctor . But , now with the fever I might have to go and get some drugs . This is only the 2nd ear infection that I have ever had in my life . And with that all being said that is why I am up so late . I can't sleep ,because I had felt bad earlier and took a nap . If you will , pray for me to get better .Thanks , Shaune

Track this bill online

Have any of you seen the track $1.00 bills floating around your area . I have gotten 2 of them recently . It is kinda neat to track where your dollar travels . It is also a good homeschool project . A good way to learn about different city's and states .I am going to mail one to my sister in Florida . Just to see what the maps thinks about how fast it made it there over night . I guess this might be considered cheating . Not sure ,if it was sent as part of a birthday gift.... I guess not !!! We are starting to count down the weeks left of school . I believe we have 10 weeks to go . We are so ready for spring to get here !!! This has been a crazy winter here in south Louisiana . I have never been so ready for the grass to start growing !!!! My animals are  ready to eat fresh lush green grass ,instead of dry hay !!!!! I am sure of this !!!

The baby goats (4 kids) are all doing fine and enjoying the sunshine for a change . I hear that rain is on the way in the morning . Then by the end of the week temps in the mid 70's . So it should dry up pretty fast . And I know spring showers, bring april flowers !!! I am ready ,ready as I can be . Lord , Keep Me Growing

Lord ,keep me growing ! I give thee thanks for the divine laws if growth that I see at work in the bodies and minds of my children . Wilt thou grant that I may find them always working out their will in myself .

Save me from stagnation of spirit . Spare me ,O God ,the lethargy of mind that comes at middle age . Keep me free from the indolence of interest that would draw back from the new and the untried .

Free me from the sameness of purpose that flinches at a new task . Give me the spirit that seeks new ideas and welcomes them when they are found .Grant me the courage to face without prejudice any challange to my long -accepted views .

May I have patience to live with books ,insight to enjoy new friends ,vigor of mind to push out into the unexplored .Keep me aware ,O Lord -aware of my time ,of its moods, of its power ,of its dangers.

Thus ,in body ,mind ,and spirit may I forget the things that are behind and stretch forward to all that lies before .Thus ,Lord,keep me growing .Amen. By P.R.Hayward

Happy Beautiful Son Day

It is just a lovely Son-day in South Louisiana . It is just picture perfect !!! So glad to see the sun shining and the blue skys . I can't wait til spring is here . I am ready to start gardening and working around the homestead . This has been a crazy cold winter here in the south . I can say we have had alot of Snow . Hey ......for us getting snow 4 times in one year !!! That is alot os snow way down here . I pray the snow and freezes are gone .LOL

My animals are running out of hay . And hey feed isn't cheap !!!! Speaking of farm animals . I bought a momma goat and 2 babies at the Auction barn last week . The momma needs some tlc and the babies are cute . I have banded all the males 3 total with "Latte" 2 boys and one girl . The boys are for sell and one is already sold . The babies will pay for the momma and the baby girl that I am keeping .

The rabbits are almost ready for the freezer . And our Momma rabbit just had 4 bunnies on friday . So we have goats and rabbits for sell . Well I am off to hang out some more cloths. And enjoy the beautiful Sunday that the Lord have given us . Happy Day ,Shaune

Latte' Had Her Babies !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well she had them around 9-to 9:30 pm last night on the 5th . So next time I am going to wait til the middle of January to dock her in the birthing stall . She almost waited til the 6th of February ,like last year . They are both doing good . They are so cute and have healthy lungs ,LOL !! They weren't twins this time . The first one is white with blackish /brown coloring going in all directions , like an oreo/swirl. This ears are brown and white down his face to this nose . Nose is dark chocolate . The other one is white with a sprinkle of gray on his head and looks like his bottom lip has a gray lipstip on it . His nose is pink !!! My camera battery is dead . I did get some cute pics. before this happened . I'll post them later today . The bad news is they both are males !!!! We wanted females , we werent' going to keep the males !!! Here is Mrs. Latte ' , and her pregnant self . So close ,but not just yet . I took pic of her and her friend the Rooster this morning . They really love each other . He rides on her back when she stands up .He sleeps with her in the barn every night .He isn't welcome in the coop !! LOL

If anybody sees this teen "Clowning Around" driving , just give me a  call !!!! This young man will be driving in 2 week , with a Learner's Perment for 6 months . Then we will go from there !!! LOL He's gonna love me for posting this picture !!!

This is my Dad I blogged about last post . WE made Cabbage Rolls for our New Years Eve and Day meal . This was the first time either of us had ever made any cabbage rolls . They we very good . I researched and came up with a recipe that was great !!! WE used 5 pounds of ground beef and rice ,with alot of other ingredients . We used 2 heads of cabbage . We must have had over 100 rolls or more !! I freeze what we didn't eat . That's about it for now . It has turned out to be a beautiful day . I have more cloths to get out on the line , see ya Shaune

Butter ,Butter ,Butter ,Please pass the Butter !!!

Dear Blogger Friends ,I am looking for a good homemade butter recipe . I have found some but none give the exact measurements for the ingredients. How much butter will it make at one time? I am praying some of you might be able to help or have a grandma to ask about it . I have borrowed my aunts butter churn(newer type) and butter dishes that her mother put butter in to measure 1 and 1/2 pounds . She doesn't have any recipies . She just remembers helping her mother with making it as a child. So any info about butter making will be very helpful to me . Thanks ,Shaune

I was so excited to make candles .You braid your wick and then dip and dip and dip and dip and dip ,you cool it a bit between dips and it builds into a CANDLE !

This is the out house that Bro. Paul built  .Don't know why I wanted a pic of us leaving the out house o-well !! . But it was such a blessing having it . So as you can see they have set up Shepherds Hill for future events as this one . They have more plans for the Homestead as the Lord provides . This is a trip you want soon forget !!!!

Homesteader's Weekend ,Cheese Making

Here are some more pics. Cheese making took several days to make .So each day we did different steps to make the cheese . The 4th pics down is the cheese press . For snacks on the last day we had homemade cheese and crackers , Yum.......!!!!

This is the solar cooker that my son and I made as a homeschool project . . And here is a real "Solar Cooker" that Bro. Paul built .This is now added to my to build list in the future .
