My Ramblings

please help with heartburn

Well, my MIL and I went to the doctor today for an ultrasound.  It was great.  I always enjoy those visits.  Funny that I like to go to the doctor now-a-days.  Anyway, we got some good pictures of little Knox.  He was still sleeping.  He woke up shortly after we left the doctor.  We ate at my dh's workplace and showed him the pictures.  We are all very excited!  It looks like he may come earlier than we thought.  I kinda hope so, but the Lord's got good timing on His own.  As for now, I want a nap so bad! but I have to wait until after work.  The "little" one is 5 lbs. 11 oz. already!

Yesterday the yarn store had a sale on yarn (its still going on) and I was able to buy some yarn for a couple of Christmas gifts.  I hope so badly that they come out well.

I have been having mean heartburn in my throat the past week, and often at night it leads to nausia and vomitting.  I don't know what the deal is.  I currently have the burning feeling in my throat.  It maybe from eating?  I don't know.  I think I have noticed it happening shortly after I eat.  Someone please offer some advice!

I saw Paula Deane do some candy apples the other day and I have been almost DYING for some.  So I think I may make some.  Fall is calling my name!!

For the heartburn, I have been taking Tums. They help. At night, try propping yourself up with pillows into a semi-sitting position. Not the most comfy for sleeping, but it keeps stuff out of your throat! Supposedly that means your baby is going to be born with lots of hair!

I remember doing the same things, propping myself up and tums. They did help, especially if I remembered to take the tums BEFORE I fell asleep! :) But, alas, my baby had very little hair! I would think that trying not to eat late in the evening would help too.

In His Love,
Jen

I do not know if you like this, but it helped me a LOT, and my midwife said she used to recommend it all the time, but no one likes it, so she quit. I noticed that days when I was at my parent's house, I didn't have heartburn so bad, if at all, and realized that although I ate more heartburn-causing foods there, I also downed my dad's black licorice. So I experimented with my own bag at home, and - it worked! Then I spoke to the midwife. anyway, look for a good brand, molassas or treacle as the first ingredient, not HFCS. Australian or European brands are good choices, with a strong licorice flavor.
I think it also helps more when it is continously in your system, and not just sampling the first few times you eat it and it doesn't work, kwim?

I am just 3 months along. I have only had two bad cases of heartburn so far. My doctor said Tums are fine and you can eat 3 or 4 at a time if needed. Other than that, I am too paranoid to take any meds, even Tylenol. My cousin is 7 months and she has heartburn constantly. She props herself up every night and it helps.

Check out this forum

http://www.pregnancy.org/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=582

It's Pregnancy.org forum for October mommies. It's free to sign up and the girls on there are super helpful. They talk about everything you ever need to know and lots that you probably don't want to know! I especially love looking at the belly pics! Whenever I'm not sure about something or need to ask a question, I go on there and get lots of advice.

TUMS! I could eat a majorly spicy dish or plain bread n water....and it didn't matter.....I'd have heartburn.....

my advice......go to costco and buy the industrial sized box of TUMS sister!

I am a few months behind you, baby#4, and it's on my list of to do's tomorrow.....the heartburn has already started.

Ah......the joys of motherhood :)

Blessings
Lisa

I wanted to add my two cents:

My doctor told me to eat very small portions and slowly (sometimes you get a "sense" of how far you can go...if you eat too fast, you don't have time to avoid it...does that make any sense? LOL)

Several other ladies mentioned keeping upright, and I would just add "not TOO upright". Sometimes it seems like the baby doesn't give you room to digest properly; I found (all those years ago) that sitting bolt upright seemed to force acids up!

Hope all these things help!

Oh yeah, one doc told me 1/2 tsp. baking soda with a cup of water (tastes nasty, but did help).
