My Ramblings

cds & canvases

Wesley is on his last day of recording today. It is such a good cd. I know that I may be bias, but I was drawn to his music before I was attracted to him, so I think I can say objectively that it is good stuff. And it is good stuff. It has been almost exactly a year in the making, so it's nice to see it come together. I have heard just about all of it (save for the stuff they are currently working on, though Merisha and I will be going up there later on this afternoon to work on it some more, and we shall hear it then) and it is Excellent work! So, because today is the last day of recording, the cd should be out (Lord willing!) by the end of this month! Hooray! And, we've been getting some pre-orders in (...ah, hem, at $10.00 each, including delivery which will be $12, so order your copy today!!!...) so that's reassuring that the cd will sell. I have full confidence in that its completely worth of listening to and worth of buying. I just hope that we can get the word out there. It will be available on iTunes eventually, too. Ok, enough about that.I have to order canvases this weekend. I was just commissioned recently to paint a portrait of a dog. I have only done this sort of portrait once, so it shall be a new venture. The one time I did a portrait of a pet was of our "stray" cat Clarence that adopted us, and it was for Wesley, so it will be interesting painting the portrait for someone outside of our home. I love doing people and animals. The pressure is in that it has to be exact. Its just not the same otherwise. Have you ever seen something someone's painted or drawn and thought, "well, I can tell that it looks like so & so, but somethings just not quite right." Exactly. It has to be exact. Generally animals are less stressful than humans, but you would be suprised (or maybe you wouldn't!) at how detail oriented you have to be when its someone's pet. People see their pets almost as children, and in this case, sometimes the pets are their children.

is the only sensible solution to the presidential candidacy. He is consitant and conservative. He is absolutely pro-life. He is absolutely anti-war in Iraq. He is absolutely about cutting taxes. He is absolutely about elliminating our national debt. He is absolutely for our freedom to choose. He wants the federal government to have less control of our lives. He wants the people to make more choices for themselves. He wants us to have the freedom to educate ourselves and our children the way we choose. He supports and promotes home-schooling!  He wants us to take care of our own citizens before trying to police the world. He is a very logical man and the right candidate for the job. Happy Birthday ds!  He is one years old today!  Last year this time I was hooked up to all kinds of machines just waiting to have this sweet little boy!   And now he's here!  He's going to be a giraffe and a gorrilla tonight.  We have 2 costumes, and 2 church fall festivals to go to, so it works out well.  Today he's in his tigger jumpsuit.  :)  Well, I have to go! Taco soup calls!

I borrowed this quiz :)

You are fun, friendly, and popular! You are a real crowd pleaser. You have probably been out on the town your share of times, yet you come home with the values that your mother taught you. (43-50 points) You are KATHERINE HEPBURN:

You are smart, a real thinker. Every situation is approached with a plan. You are very healthy in mind and body. You don't take crap from anyone. You have only a couple of individuals that you consider "real friends". You teach strong family values. Keep your feet planted in them, but don't overlook a bad situation when it does happen.

(51-60 points) You are ELIZABETH TAYLOR:

Everyone is in awe of you. You know what you want and how to get it. You have more friends than you know what to do with. Your word is your bond. Everyone knows when you say something it is money in the bank. You attract the opposite sex. Your intelligence overwhelms most. Your memory is the next thing to photographic. Everyone admires you because you are so considerate and lovable. You know how to enjoy life and treat people right.

Chilly October

12:44, Tuesday, October 23, 2007 .. 0 comments .. Link

Well, it's getting chilly here again!  I'm so glad for the change in weather.  It's been a long time coming!  My ds wore his new camo onesie with long sleeves and pants today.  I think it's a perfect day for it.  I think we're going to have vegetable beef soup and jalapeno cornbread tonight for dinner.  I just love hearty soups this time of year.  I thought about gumbo, but I'll wait on that.  So, I think I have everything for the soup and cornbread except for the stew meat, and I guess I'll go by the grocery on the way into town.

My ds is sick.  He had a fever of 101.8 yesterday and 99.7 today.  I think it must be going down, but I'm still concerned about him.  He's still not quite one yet, so I'm blessed, really, that this is the first real time he's been sick.  I have stayed home from work today and yesterday to care for him.  I have enjoyed it, too, strangely enough.

We stayed at my dmil and dfil's house last night (southernbelle here on homesteadblogger).  Dh had to go out of town last night to play for a BSU, so ds and I went there for the evening.  Today was nice because I have been able to go about without a strict schedule since I'm off work.  Plus, it's a good day for snuggling up since it's so chilly.  Hmmm, that makes me think that chili would be yummy soon, too.  And dh came home for lunch, so I was able to have a nice visit with him before he had to head back out.  He also got to play with ds.  My mil and i looked through some older photo albumns this morning.  That was fun to see dh and the family growing up.   There were a couple where dh looked just like his dad!

Christmas is around the corner!  Last night we drew names to see who gifts whom.  Dh and I both have the 2 girls (my sil's).  That'll be fun to shop for!  I always enjoy shopping for girls better than boys.  I never know what the guys want.

Ds has a birthday party coming up!  We've decided to have it in the park, and it looks like its going to be nice weather.  I'm glad we're doing it in the park, b/c i don't have to worry about the house being perfect or parking or how many people will come or when.  People can just come and go as they please.  I'm going to make chocolate cupcakes.  My grandmother mentioned making a sheetcake, and if she wants to do that, more power to her!

since my first son was born.  Wow.  This year has FLOWN by.  It seems like just a couple weeks ago that I was the size of a watermelon and waddling around ready to pop, and now, ds is playing patti-cake and walking around.  I've decided that we're going to have a little family party for him before the actual date so that more people will be able to come.  We're going to have chocolate cupcakes with orange (dyed vanilla) icing.  He has only had VERY limited sweets in his life, and certainly never a cupcake, so I think he'll be excited.    I'll have to make sure that we have the camera charged to take lots of pictures.

donuts...man, they were good.

10:41, Wednesday, August 1, 2007 .. 1 comments .. Link

Last week I bought some donuts from a coworker's son for a school fundraiser.  I was very excited about the donuts, b/c i knew that my husband would love the suprize.  I got the donuts that afternoon. They were as hard as bricks. No, really, they were super hard and at least two days old. Yuck. But, today, I won donuts on the radio! They were delicious. I called in (you were supposed to be caller #3) and was number 1. Poo. Then I thought, God, PLEASE let me win these donuts. I'm hungry! And then I was caller number 3! I'm not a name-it-and-claim-it person by ANY means, so don't think i'm saying that. But, it was neat that God provided the donuts. He's good in the simple things that seem insignificant (even though he'd still be good if i didn't win the donuts, too.)

please pray for my dh and myself.  he is contemplating changing jobs.  the new one would pay more but it's a tough decision.  I also want immensly to stay home with our little ds, but i don't see how i can stay home right now.  please pray God will provide a way i can stay home with our ds and that we will be able to provide for our family.

Happy Fourth!!

ok ladies, i need your help

DH and I are trying to seriously cut spending and get down to only spending what is necessary.  We have minimal bills, but it seems sometimes that the minimum bills are a lot, too.  What are ways I can cut spending that I'm not thinking of?  We are planning on:
1. Not going out to eat.
2. Cooking more from the garden (our mil and fil have graciously given us some nice produce when they get an abundance).
3. Living more with less a/c blowing.

And that's where I am.  I know these will help a lot, but I still feel there are more things we could do.   Maybe I shouldn't feel that way until after I emplement these budget-savings more, but I do feel that way.  Could you PLEASE offer me suggestions on what I could do to penny-pinch???  Even cheap meals!  DH is particular about what we eat, such as, he doesn't eat most casseroles, and prefers meat or seafood in most dishes.  PLEASE HELP!

Dinner

10:58, Tuesday, June 19, 2007 .. 1 comments .. Link

Tonight we are going to have pasta and shrimp for dinner.  I am going to cheat a bit, but hey, whatever to get dinner on the table.  Pasta is store bought, and partially cooked.  I just have to bring it to a boil.  Nice.  Shrimp will be in the skillet to heat through.  I'm sure I'll add EVOO and some seasoning, but that's it.  Lemon juice and butter and garlic for the sauce.  I am going to try to make it to the grocery store to get some salad to go with our food.

Last night we had pizza.  We bought our sauce from Pizza Hut.  We get 2 packs of the marinara dipping sauce and it's plenty for the pizza.  And really good, too . Much cheaper and healthier than to buy the Pizza Hut pizza.

Yesterday, my dh called my mil (southernbelle).  That's the first time he's ever made a call, so we'll have to put that one on the calendar.  I guess he pushed the speed dial.  I think they had a lovely chat.

I had a call today from a community college nearby to see if i am interested in possibly teaching a class there in the fall.  I think i'm going to go by there and fill out the paperwork just in case.

This is a direct copy and paste from Hillary Clinton's website.  My comments will be inserted in Blue.

Ready to Lead

Hillary has fought the relentless and insidious efforts by far-right Republicans to limit the protections of Roe v Wade, while also working hard to expand access to family planning services.  Did you notice that the called Conservatives "relentless and insidious?"  Praise God we are relentless, or evil would be even more abounding!  "Insidious?" Never!  We are straitforward with the truth of what abortion is, what the women endure afterwards, what infanticide is!

Hillary has seen what happens when governments try to control a woman's reproductive health decisions. Whether it was Romania under a dictatorship saying you had to have children for the good of the state or China saying you had to have only one child for the good of the state, governments have dictated the most private and important decisions that we as individuals or families can make.  Banning abortions would not be dictating a woman's reproductive health decisions!  It would instead be protecting the decisions of the alive human that she wants to slaughter.   These other countries want to decide the family size for the country's use, but America is not determining how many children a person can or cannot have.  She is simply preventing the murder and anhiliation of a group of helpless people!

She has championed the Prevention First Act, which expands access to family planning services for low-income women, requires health insurance companies to cover contraception, and provides a dedicated funding stream for age-appropriate, medically accurate, comprehensive sex education. This Prevention First Act would provide the ablity for contraceptives to low income individuals.  According to www.theorator.com (and I mark it in pink so as not to confuse it to be my writings, which it is Not), this bill states:

      (2) Each year, 3,000,000 pregnancies, nearly half of all pregnancies, in the United States are unintended, and nearly half of unintended pregnancies end in abortion.

      (3) In 2002, 34,000,000 women--half of all women of reproductive age (ages 15-44)--were in need of contraceptive services and supplies to help prevent unintended pregnancy, and half of those were in need of public support for such care.

      (4) The United States also has the highest rate of infection with sexually transmitted diseases of any industrialized country. In 2003 there were approximately 19,000,000 new cases of sexually transmitted diseases. According to the CDC (November 2004), these sexually transmitted diseases impose a tremendous economic burden with direct medical costs as high as $15,500,000,000 per year.

Let me explain this to you.  They say that every year, about 1.5 MILLION pregnancies end in abortion.  That is according to their data, close to ONE QUARTER of all pregnancies!!  One in Four pregnancies end in abortion according to their data!!!  Let's see, folks.  What is the most logical response of the country?  To spend "$643,000,000 for fiscal year 2006, and such sums as may be necessary for each subsequent fiscal year" meaning $643 MILLION of your honestly made Tax dollars spent on contraceptions for people who cannot otherwise afford it.  I say, No!  It is much more efficient and safe and cheap to promote Absenance!!!!  Yes America "has the highest rate of infection with sexually transmitted diseases of any industrialized country" because we are one of the most sexually active countries! www.hillaryclinton.com proudly states,

In partnership with Senator Patty Murray, Hillary waged a successful three-year battle to get the Food and Drug Administration to accept the overwhelming recommendation of the medical community and make Plan B (the "morning after" pill) available over the counter.

This is a horrific outcome of Hillary Clinton in office with too much power!  If she can accomplish this with the power of a Senator, what could she do as President?!  Can you imagine it?  By the way, if for some reason you don't know, the Morning After Pill is a small pill you can take the morning after you have sex to abort any pregnancy that you may have from the night before.  And now, it's over the counter for any child to buy.  What would happen if some crazed person bought it and gave it to people without them knowing?  Or forced them to take it? Please, I urge you, do Not support Hillary Clinton.  Please, spread the word!!!   Anyway, go check it out for yourself.  It's disgusting.  www.hillaryclinton.com

Try it! :)

Hello all

11:37, Tuesday, May 8, 2007 .. 0 comments .. Link

This past weekend was nicely productive and relaxing.  I got the much needed laundry done and put away!! Hooray!!  We went to the grocery store already.  We stayed the night out at my mil and fil's house.   We had fun, and ds got a bath.  He was so cute!  I finished a painting for my ds for her birthday (which has past, but she lives out of town, so it's ok) and she's coming in town this weekend, so I'll give it to her then.  Perfect timing.  Dh and I watched several movies.  We ate some good food, too.  Last night we had crawfish fetticini alfredo at a friend's house.   Yum-o!!!  Tonight I am cooking chicken, shrimp, and sausage gumbo with rice, salad, and brownies for dessert!!!  Yummy!!!  I think we'll go to my dd's house b/c we haven't seen him in a while.  I think dh is getting my healthclub membership today!  That's exciting, too.  I want to get back into weight lifting and running.
Dh and I are considering getting a professional digital camera.  We are currently researching it, but the one we're sold on so far is the Canon 30D.  Have you ever tried it?  I'd love your reviews if so.

weekend travels

05:03, Monday, April 23, 2007 .. 1 comments .. Link

this weekend we went on a mini tour for my dh's music.  he played for a youth group retreat.  it was great.  we stayed at a cabin on the lake onsite.  we will be going back thru there on his next tour.  we sold some cds (they're only $5.00 each, plus shipping, if anyone wants one), too.
Dh said "Dada" last night.  We are proud.  We will be going out to my mil and fil's house.  we haven't seen them in a while.  I am looking forward to it.  We also haven't seen my dd lately, so we may see him tomorrow.

weekend update

11:55, Saturday, April 14, 2007 .. 2 comments .. Link
I'm listening to my dh play guitar.  He's wonderful.  He's a really great artist.  go to www.myspace.com/wesleyheathstrebeck to listen to a sample of his music.  We are going to al this coming weekend to play at a disciple now.  we're excited about it.  we're able to leave a day early to stay with some friends on the way to the site.  we're bringing ds with us.  there's a concert this week that we're going to that i'm so excited about!  my df is going to watch ds so that he doesn't have to come with us.  My mil and fil are coming, too, i found out tonight!  yay!  it'll be a double date! :o)  I think we're going to leave a little early so that we can have plenty of time.  Dh recorded some today with a friend.  it sounds great.  i hope we can get them on cds in time for the weekend retreat so that maybe we can make a little extra cash.  We're at my mil and fil's house.  We spent most of the day out here, and we have  had a good time.  They are very hopsitable people, and i appreciate them.  Mil cooked corn, beans, sweet potatoes and BBQ chicken.  Yum!!  It was so good!  I think it's my dh's favorite meal!  :o)  Ds had a good day, too.  He didn't cry hardly at all that i know of, and went right to sleep.  He stayed up a bit later than usual, but only b/c we were all playing with him.  Last night my dh suprized me by taking me on a date!  It was so wonderful, and at just the right time!  I was just thinking (and getting upset, if i may be completely honest) that it had been a while since we went on a date together.  And then, he goes and makes reservations at our favorite resteraunt, arranges a friend of ours to watch ds, and a movie!  It was so much fun.  It felt like we were still courting! :o) But better.  Tomorrow I have to get on a painting for my sister that she wants for her birthday.  It's multicolored squares.  If it turns out fine, I may do myself a similar one.  Oh!  I almost forgot.  We have been using a bed that my dm and df gave us when we got married that they used when they got married that was my gm's and i think even my ggm's before her.  Well, needless to say, it is an old wooden bed.  Well, every so often the 1 x 4's under the mattress fall out, but we just stick them back up there.  Dh was sitting on the bed playing guitar, when they fell out again, except this time the whole footboard fell apart.  After a long time of banging on it and trying to get it all back together, we decided we need to just wait until we get wood glue or just get a new bed.  So, we're on the floor on a palate.  It's romantic, though! :o)  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  I am surely enjoying southernbelle's roses and pasture.  It is beautiful here.

tuesday

11:37, Tuesday, March 27, 2007 .. 3 comments .. Link

Well, this morning we had our portraits done as a family.  I think they are going to be wonderful.  They were mainly of our ds, but they also are of dh and I.  Her website is www.amandasheaphotography.com, and go to the "Galleries" page, "Beginings" page, and his picture is the tenth block.  I am working on creating a baby's first year calandar for our ds.  It's complete with stickers of all sorts of firsts.  I found it off of the hp website.  Basically all you need is paper and a printer.
Last night we had crawfish for dinner.  They were really good.  This weekend we went to my mil's house (Southernbelle) and ate the fish that she and fil caught.  I think my fil had the week off last week, so they spent time together fishing, and from what I hear, mil is becoming quite the fisherman...er, woman.   Fil was bragging on her a bit.  It was sweet.  Dh, ds, and I spent the night out there Friday night.  It was good to spend time with them.
We are having baked chicken breasts for dinner tonight.  I believe I'll make broccoli casserole to go with it.  It's one of my favorites.  We still have a little bit of crawfish left, so I'll make either bisque or pasta with it later.  I haven't decided yet.  Although, They would be good in a stuffed potatoe...hmmm....
