Mulching

It's that time of year again, to mulch the flower beds. Much to my surprise, I am getting better at this flower bed thing. I have peonies, purple coneflower, lambs ear, monkey grass, sweet william, salvia, and more... all coming back! Can you believe that???
That is a lantana above... Oh it is SO pretty!
I would even have more had it not been for all the puppies we had at one time who killed and dug up everything!  grrrrr
In my jumble bed, I have ALL kinds of things. I will have to take a pic.
In my Mobunny bed, I have day lilies, cosmos, and something new... ugh, I will have to try to remember what it is called... it's supposed to spread nicely.
So one morning last week I jumped up bright and early and the kids and I went and got some mulch in the truck.
And we mulched the beds... What fulfilling work, the finished project is so beautiful, and we all had a great time.  We finished for a late lunch and a nice nap afterwards when it was really hot...
Abe was in hog heaven with the big load of mulch and spent most of the time in the bed of the truck... 'helping'.
When I shoveled it all out
It broke his heart.
He's healing nicely though, he still has his sandbox. :)

Bloomers...

So much beauty to see outside...
I had to get out there and soak it in.

Weigela
Weigela in need of a pruning.

Dianthus

Winter pansies, still beautiful.

I believe this is a honeysuckle rose, but if anyone knows differently, please let me know. :)

Around the homestead....

After a long and chilly winter, we are finally coming into beautiful spring!
Bare feet and sandbox fun.
Shirtless boys, being boys and conquering the world...
Herbs springing  up and coming back after a long sleep... coming in quite nicely, too.
Oregano, just waiting for all type of recipes.
Springtime... what a lovely time to be alive!

Happy April!

Our little friend the Tufted Titmouse visits us and sings Happy Spring to us every day now.  His pretty little song and ruffled feathers are so sweet...
I love April, or maybe it is that I just love life... every day has such beauty if we just choose to see it.
God has blessed us with this life, this ONE life! Embrace it, Live it for HIS Glory and truly live... For Him.
Happy April
Happy Spring
Happy Day
Happy.

Thursday on the homestead...

Oh my, the sun is coming up so beautifully... the land is shining in the sunlight.  It is gorgeous outside already.  I can't wait to get out and put some more clothes on the line...
School must be done.  We are so anxious to get outside, it is hard to make everyone finish, including the teacher... haha.  But, we are. Sometimes coming in to finish up of the evening.  Hey, it works. I imagine in a couple of weeks we will be back to freezing temps around here. So I want us to be able to enjoy the warm weather while we can...
We have some planting to do once we get seed.  We need to get out some cabbage, lettuce and peas.  I adore little bitty sweet peas... Oh man, how good are they?
Little family secret... when I make peas, the family wants mashed potatoes with them, they pile the peas on top of the potatoes and eat em up. :)
Shh... don't tell the kids I shared our secret. haha. :)
I wish you all a good day,  I have to get busy.
Love to you and yours,
My Cup Runneth Over...

Warm Weather, Happy Kids

Cameo is toting around "Bryan" in her puppy backpack... I told you she was imaginative. :)
Good Morning Dear Ones, how happy I am that you stopped in for a visit! :)
Thank you! :)
Well, around here the weather has been just glorious.  Warm and beautiful.  The children finished up school as quickly as possible and headed for the outdoors.
We cleaned up the raised beds, pulled the weeds and planted the spinach. We They played with the puppies.
We took a walk around the property, went down to the pond, looked around the pasture area and just dreamed about an exciting future.
Later on we had to go to the local garden store which is just minutes from the house and they had about 10 rabbits... can you imagine the glee in the children.
They concocted the plan to get the rabbit pen cleaned up and in good order again and if they did well surely Mom and Dad would allow them to use some of their money from The Burrell Bank (I will tell you about this soon) and let them buy themselves a rabbit.
Being the coolest parents ever (haha) we told them we would discuss it... as we are going to. :)
I tell you though, beautiful spring-like days just make you feel good... by the time we all went to bed last night, we were all ready, having worked and played hard and were ready for a good nights rest.
Have a wonderful day today, my friends.

Thursday on the homestead

Good Morning!  Brrrr, we are freezing around here, but you would think it being this cold we would at least get a little snow on the ground.
Nope, not in GA! We are supposed to heat up to 50+ tomorrow and the weekend. Crazy cold and then spring temps... just enough of back and forths to make you berserk.
I had to run out early this morning and pick Shannon up, his truck is needing some work, so we had to drop it off at the local mechanics.
I got back home and worked on cleaning up the kitchen, the kids helped me get the laundry going and now I have some dough in the works for some calzones. OH YEAH... I can't wait, I think they will be GREAT!
I am going to have all kinds of fillings laid out and like a good Mom let the kids make their own... as long as they put one vegetable on it. :)
I can smell the garlic in the bread now. Mmmm...
Eli came to ask me what a verb was a minute ago... I have not even started talking verbs, nouns or whatnot with him, but just like in everything with that child, he came to me to figure it out first. :) Gotta love that!
I have some ideas in my brain rolling around.  I want to sew more often, but too often I feel cramped and isolated in that back cubby room where I keep my sewing supplies. Remember that post?
My Mom, the super organizer and room switcher suggested I turn that little nook into my linen closet and move my sewing things into the laundry room.  I really like that idea and I may start on it pronto... well as soon as Shannon wakes up. :) I would like to have everything closer so while the kids are working on seat work, I could be in there making a jumper for the girls or sewing an apron for meself, or if I get the notion, start on my first big quilt! ACK! :)
I have a project that I have to start on soonly.  My Cousin has a baby due in May and I have decided to make her a sling like I wore... remember?
That's Abram all snuggled up against me in there... oh how I miss those days.  I wish I had a new little one snuggled against my chest right now.
 swoon
Anyhow, I plan on making one up for her and when I do, I will try and make a tutorial out of the process.
Good times...
So I wish you the best of Thursday's. Enjoy your day and God Bless You all! :)

Cold weather, Cold Noses, Cold Toes

For days now we have had blustery, snowy, cold weather.  Weather that chills you to your bones.  We have had snow for several days but not much accumulation. The local school system was shut down yesterday for the snow, the neighboring mountain had a good bit in spots, but we barely had a dusting.
Through all of this we have been sickly... a terrible congested cold and cough with my littlest little being the worst off by far.
I have been busy making chicken soup, and soothing foods to help boost their immune system as well as giving them doses of CLO.
More often than not you will find one or more of the children looking like this...
Yesterday, I went to the local health food store and picked up some garlic some more CLO and some elderberries.  When I got home I made up some elderberry cough syrup and some elderberry cough drops aka elderberry drops... it is amazing that if you leave out the word cough they seem more like yummy candy than cough drops... at least to the children. :)
I adapted my recipe from the one Crystal Miller uses for horehound cough drops.  My local health food store did not carry horehound, so I opted for elderberry since I knew that they had many good properties for colds and coughs.
I hope you all are well and I pray God's blessings on you today and every day!

Productive Days

Aunt Chassy and wee nephew, Baby Greyson... can you say, pure bliss??? Ahhhh..
Good Morning my friends!  I hope you are having a great week so far.  I am up this morning baking up the Cinnamon Roll dough I put in the fridge last night.  Wow, they look GREAT! :)
Things have been going pretty well around our little homestead lately.  Since Christmas I have been really productive, making lists and checking them off. I love it. :)
Yesterday morning we(the children and I), set out to 'declutter' the boys room.  And we did!  We pulled out bags of junk and clothes that were too little and too big and too many.  We cleaned under and around and above everything and by lunch time we had accomplished a great work!
Today is the girls room...ACK!  I am concerned that it might take us a bit longer there since I have to deal with my pack rat daughter, Cameo. :)
It feels so good to get some much needed tasks completed... A tidy home helps me to work better, to be much more at ease.
After we finished the boys room I worked and worked on laundry to get us caught up.  I am happy to say that I have one more load to wash and 2 to fold and we are completely caught up... for a minute at least. haha.
I also went through books and papers and folders yesterday in the schoolroom.  Shannon and I bought the children a few new-to-us books for Christmas and they needed a place on the shelves... so we had to rearrange.
Can you EVER have enough bookshelf space? I need a full room for a library.  Or at least a few floor to ceiling bookshelves. THAT would be nice. :)
Mmmm... I can smell the cinnamon rolls and so I had better go and pull those out of the oven.  I hope you have a super day!
