My Cup Runneth Over at Heritage Acres Farm...

To Carlie Jean for her belated birthday...

Posted in Being a Mommy!
A tribute to my Sweet One's birthday that we missed...
Carlie Jean, we missed your birthday this year because Daddy was in the hospital.  July 6th was such a special day, when you were born.  You were so precious and  you had so much hair, just what I wanted... we adorned you with a bow almost immediately.
Such a good baby.  You slept well, you ate well, you loved to cuddle.
You grew so quickly, becoming such a little beauty.
As quickly as you could you wanted to do everything you saw Moma do.
Washing dishes...
Making saurkraut...
Wearing your baby, or Dora...
Singing at church...
You are my big girl now, 4 years old... learning, growing and becoming more special to me every day.
I love you Carlie Jean, my precious... and I am so thankful God blessed me with you.

Slow Moving Monday...

Posted in Being a Mommy!
I tell you, I am slow moving this morning.  I jumped up with Shannon to find out if he was going to try to go in to work today... he did but was still a bit nervous about driving,  so the children and I took him to work, which means we left the house at 6:15... we then waited in the parking lot till 8:30 to make sure he was going to be alright.  He said he would be... though I am a bit worried.  I pray he can make it...  I am going to be extra attentive to him this evening making sure he gets plenty of rest once he is at home.
Yesterday was our Old Fashioned Day at church... it is usually a lot of fun and this year was no exception... the only down was Shannon still not feeling well.  I planned on getting a family picture of us dressed up, but never got around to it... I did get some snapshots of the two youngest.
Carlie Jean
Abram
They were all so stinking cute, I wish I had pictures of the rest of the family.
My friends, I am going to go and spend a little time with my youngins and then eventually get some work done around here.  I hope you all have a great day!

Hair-do's

Posted in Being a Mommy!
Good Morning!
When it comes to being a Moma of little ones... girls for that matter, I have always tried to make sure that if we leave the house the girls hair is fixed.  Other than that, I sometimes wouldn't even think about fixing their hair... only later to be terribly bothered that they look like Cousin Itt running through the yard, wondering how they can stand to try and see through the mangled mess or what I called the mop on their head.  I was inspired when I came upon this blog called She Does Hair.  So yesterday, I told my girls, we are going to start fixing our hair everyday... not just on days we go to church or we go to Walmart.  So here is what we did with their hair yesterday.
Carlie Jean's criss crosses

Cameo's Mane
I French Braided her hair down each side and then left some to be spiky at the ends, I then brought each end up and tied it at the base of the head.
She wants me to let you know the reason her eyes are red and puffy in this picture was because there was talk of getting rid of her dog and it devastated her, (the dog snapped at the mailman twice... she just had 5 puppies and she is EXTREMELY protective, the mailman therefore told me off and said he was NEVER bringing my mail again, I would just have to come into town to pick it up, I told Cameo we might have to think about getting rid of Dixie if she is going to be that aggressive... although this is certainly not the first time, and with those words Cameo broke down)
Have a great day my friends, and enjoy this first day of July!

Chores?

Posted in Being a Mommy!
Good Morning!
I have been mulling over something for a while now.  Around our house we all pitch in on chores, that has we do it... we help each other until the chore is done.  Well, I have been thinking of a way to help organize things around here because it seems we can get on one thing or another and not move on... make sense?
Well, I want all the kids to be helpers and sometimes Cameo feels like she has to do everyone's job.  I don't want her to feel that way.  I want everyone to see that they have a part.  I am a visual learner, I feel that my kids are pretty visual as well, so I thought a chore chart would be good for us.
I bought one of those large foam boards and scored it off.  I made a place for their names and the days of the week.  I then made little rectangles with the job written on it and push pinned it on the board.  This way, if Cameo sweeps on Monday, I can swap it and have Eli sweep on Wednesday or something like that.  That way everyone is learning something new and everyone is helping.  Once the day is over I will go back and reset them for the next day.
I don't know if this will work perfectly or even well, I think it will work nicely but you never know until you try it.  One thing I think I need to do is go back and make some smaller squares so I can fit more under each name... 2 is hardly all we need to be helping with for the day.  I just figure this can help until it becomes second nature for each of the kids to be helpers with any task.
So is there something that you do? Something that works really well for your family? If so please let me know, I might be able to implement it in with my chart.
I want to thank you for stopping by... I appreciate each and every one of you!  Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend...
I am going to the used homeschool book fair tomorrow! WOO HOO!!!

Girls Night Out!

Posted in Being a Mommy!
For Cameo's birthday she decided to use some of her birthday money and asked if we could go to High School Musical: Live on Stage.  After some thinking it over, Shannon and I decided that it would be fun for me to take the girls for a 'Girls Night Out'.
We went to Cancun for some chips and cheese
And we got a little silly too...
The beautiful Tivoli... the same place I had my Senior Prom (in which I won Prom Queen... hee hee) and the same place we had our graduation where I sang in front of a LOT of people... thinking about it now makes me shakey.
The girls are ready for the show
As am I...
Of course there was no photography during the show, so sadly no photos of that, but we had a GREAT time and I am so glad we went.  I hope you guys have a fantastic day... and make sure you stop back by, I am going to have some type of giveaway soon! Woohoo!

A Tribute to my Daughter on her Birthday

Posted in Being a Mommy!
Cameo,
You blessed our lives eleven years ago today.  You were such a beautiful baby.  Everyone at church was so excited because there had not been any babies for a while until you...
Over the years you have grown... more wonderful and beautiful every day.  You have such a tender heart, you get that from your Moma.
You have such a love for animals and you are so nurturing and loving.  You also, tend to like to have things in such a way... you get that from your Moma too!
You are the apple of my eye, Cameo.
I love being your Mother, I love being able to hold you and comfort you when you are sad.  I love being able to laugh with you when we are being silly, I love you even when you are a 'grumpy bear'.  Remember when you were little and would wake up and I would ask you how you were... you would sometimes say you were a 'grumpy bear'...  I love you, my wonderful Cameo.
You are my first little love, you hold a special place in my heart.  You are such a fantastic big sister, you are a terrific little Moma in training...
Your brothers and sister look up to you sooooo much
Cameo, I hope today is so special for you.  I want it to be a great birthday... I love you so much.
Happy Birthday my wonderful, beautiful, precious Cameo.
Love,
Your Moma

In Preparation...

Posted in Being a Mommy!
Good Morning my friends!!!!
Tomorrow my big girl turns 11!!  Can you believe that? Where has the time gone? Could it be yesterday that she was learning to ride her bike and comb her own hair????
So we are in preparation for her par-tay!! Cleaning ,baking and getting it all done so that tomorrow will be a great day!
Of course you can guess what the party theme will be... Horses... my girl and her love of horses.  Also her love of pink and brown.
Sooooo, I made her a banner that will go up at the party and then it will be something she can put in hers and Carlie Jean's room.
Remnants of her quilt fabrics, cut into semi circles with pinking shears and between a long strip of coordinating fabric.  Very simple and  VERY cute in my opinion.
Well, I am off to get all of the other little things done... Have a GREAT day!!!!

Kids are so funny...

Posted in Being a Mommy!
Our Abram has been different than all the rest of our children, they all would take naps during the day and then sleep fine at night, going to bed around 8:30 or 9:00 pm.  Not Abe, he for the longest time would not fall asleep during nap time and then I would have wasted a rather long time trying to get him to sleep and I would feel crummy because I dozed off and he did not.  So I stopped trying to make him nap during the day, it helps to wear him out more and now he sleeps much better at night... I hate it, I know he needs a nap, but I don't know any other way around it.
Well, we had been outside for a great deal of the day yesterday, gardening and cleaning and digging and such and after supper when I was cleaning up he wanted to color.  Look at what I found after he was coloring for a minute or so...
Sound asleep, crayon in hand, still leaned over the table, and still grubby as everything from playing in the dirt... So sweet I had to take a picture.
Have a great day everyone!

Fun times

Posted in Being a Mommy!
Yesterday morning we went and spent some time at the hospital with my Nannie.  She is doing pretty well and I thank you for your prayers.
Afterwards since we were in town anyhow we went and took advantage of our Zoo membership.
We had a great time.
Clowning around...
Mom! When are we going to get our goats????
We have a lot to do today and will be busy around the house.  If things dry up outside we will be tending to some weeds in our gardens.  So I must tarry.  I hope you have a great day!
Some time this week I hope to share with you about how we plant our potatoes and how beautifully they are doing.

A quick post

Posted in Being a Mommy!
Just a quick post this morning, I am headed to the hospital for my Nannie Black.  That is my Dad's Mom.  She is having surgery at 8:00 this morning.  Please send up a prayer for her.
Here is a picture of my children all snuggled in Mom and Dad's bed Saturday night.
Have a lovely day.
