I love Thursday's

Thursday's are one of my FAVORITE days... I am not sure why.  I believe I was born on a Thursday, I know I was re-born on a Thursday (Thank you Jesus), so there are two pretty terrific Thursday happenings for me...  But other than that, I usually don't go anywhere on Thursdays, I usually make a pretty nice supper, something a little more labor intensive since I am at home all day. I just like Thursday's.
Today's Thursday, looks to be a nice one as well.  I had my quiet time already... YEAH! The little ones are stirring, and it looks like it will either be terribly dreary or rainy.  Rainy days are GOOD for quilting and embroidery, something I need to be working on... OH and I have a top to make for Cameo, she is so excited about the top, I have to finish it by Sunday.
Here is a little sneak peek at something we have in the works.  We have a rather smallish house and our storage space is EXTREMELY limited.  So my husband and I have been talking about adding something to help with our storage problems, especially since we are planting a garden about 3 times larger than we have EVER planted!  We are working on putting in a Root Cellar We have the hole dug, Thank you Daddy (remember all that equipment in my back yard?), it will be a 12x12.  I am VERY excited about this project, I have been reading up on it and it is supposed to be one of the cheapest forms of extra storage and perfect to keeping excess fruits and veggies and  to keep our canned goods from our harvest.  Plus, should we have any bad storms, it will be an ideal place to seek shelter, a lot safer than our closet.
Because the hole has been there for a couple of weeks now, the children have a NEW favorite place to play.  War commences with a couple of children in the trenches and a couple behind the piles of clay.  They have had lots of fun there.
Well, my friends... I must tarry, I have a quilt to finish, children to love and educate, food to prepare, and a garden to tend...if the rain holds off... and then I need to get started on a wedding gift.  I hope you enjoy your day and appreciate the simple things today...
Love to each and every one!

Cool! That's a nice-sized one too. We have this storm shelter that has a window. If it didn't have that window and didn't get rainwater on the floor, I'd use it for a root cellar. BUT it does have a window and it does leak water. :) Plus my children left the door open on it and a blue jay came in and built a nest in the corner. If it didn't have baby birds in it, I'd tear it out. The kids were using it for a playhouse. I guess that will teach them to leave the door open. ;)

My husband dreams of a root cellar too! I told him maybe next year or the year after. The fruit trees really shouldn't do anything till the third year anyway. And this year we're adding bedrooms and a utility room!!! Next year we'll probably have to fix/replace the barn, so three years sounds good to me!
We've never gardened beyond peppers, tomatoes and a little salad stuff since we were military and constantly moving. We're excited to see so much growing in our garden too, but our peas have a fungus :( So that's sad.

root cellar

I have toyed with this idea as well. Last year our fruit was all lost in a frost, but this year is looking productive so we may have to do one as well. What are you going to make it out of?

Where are your plans

for the root cellar? I doubt we could do one larger than a 10x10 without having to go through permits and inspectors and all that. Interesting thought though!

Thursdays!

I can't believe that your favorite day is Thursday, too!
It is also mine!
Lydia embroidered a little duck on a pillow case, and I chose Thursday for her to do on the other side! I gave an old Thursday (embroidered) towel to somebody special one time!
three cheers for Thursday!
I'm trying to figure out what it is about a Thursday........the calm before the storm? The WeEKenD?

soulmates

Just one more piece of evidence that we were meant to be BFF :D I am the only person I know who loves Thursday. IT has always been my favorite day of the week. It has all the anticipatory pleasure of almost-the-weekend without being close enough to Monday to be thinking about the work week again. Does that make any sense?

I have always been one to enjoy the anticipation more than the event. I can't wait until Heaven when the real thing will finally be better than I expect. Not that I don't enjoy the things that come my way- I just like looking forward to them a little bit more :D

Love you, dear one!

Root Cellar...

I am totally interested to know how this project goes, materials used, cost, etc. if you don't mind sharing. We have tossed around the idea for the three years we have lived in Kansas (aka Tornado Alley) without a basement and a very large garden. Would love to hear all the details as you all go along.

Have a wonderful day!
