I'll admit it, I am a sucker for handmade gifts. When people put their heart and talent into something and give it... oh, it is an amazing treasure.
I know that not everyone feels this way, though.
I know this because of what I found several weeks ago at Goodwill. A bag full of crocheted snowflakes and some odd and end crocheted ornaments.
The snowflakes are really beautiful and there were so many, I shared them with my Mom, my Sister and my friend Lindsey. My heart broke as I thought of the one who had put the time and effort into each snowflake and then had the whole bag sold at $1.99.
Don't fret, dear crocheter... they are well loved once again. :)
If you are interested in trying your hand at your own crocheted snowflakes, here is a good place to start.

Oh so pretty! I'm glad you "saved" them.:-) I love making and giving home crafted gifts as well. I picked up 4 really nice hand knitted sweaters with made by grandma tags at a yard sale this summer. I got them for under a 1.00 and all I could think was all the work and love that went into them. But now my little ones love them!
As sad as this sounds, I'm almost hesitant to make something that takes so much time and heart to give to someone that I know. But I will crochet my finger to the bone for someone I don't know and will never see. Crazy, I know. And probably not very nice of me. But I can't tell you how many times I've been in a thrift store and found them selling a crocheted afghan for $3. My grandmother has made it her mission in life, I think, to buy up all those afghans :). Everytime we go there and she finds one, it must go home with her. She's made the comment many a times that she knows how long it took them to make that....
Chas, you are a mind reader! I had been trying to find some way to cheery up the place and crocheted snowflakes fit the bill!
When we helped my in-laws move several years ago, I found a huge bag of doilies that Mom had crocheted when her kids were young. They were beautiful but she wanted to just throw them out! They all now are a part of my home and are what inspired me to learn to crochet. Maybe one day I'll be as good as she was. I have no idea why she just quit.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Brenda
