Playing around with my camera...

I have been wanting to learn more about my camera for a while now and I decided to play with it last night to see what I could learn.  I have been wanting to take some black and whites and sepia's of the kids but, if you have ever tried to take a picture of kids, you know what happens... THEY MOVE!  So, I piddled around and found a way that would capture them even while they were a bit fidigity.
Here are a few of my shots...
It is still not perfectly clear, but at least it isn't a big blur... and I don't have photoshop.
How cute is he???? swoon :)
Intensely into the movie....
Anyone with advice... feel free to chime in. I would love it.
Have a great Friday and a wonderful weekend! :)

I think they look really good - considering you didn't photoshop them. I work with graphic artists so I know that most images we are use to seeing are photoshopped. One thing I noticed about my own camera that might help is that more you zoom, the grainier the picture gets. If you look at your pictures you can see how much clearer the first one is. On my camera it shows on the screen how much zoom is on - it comes up 3x, 4x, etc. What I've found is that anything beyond 3x is grainy. Not sure if yours says that but thought I'd offer up the suggestion. By the way, I think the take the pictures in the sepia tone is a great idea - makes me think of old time pictures.

you can download Picasa3 for free and do all kinds of cool stuff with your pics. You can up load a color pic and make it black and white, sepia, warm it up, make it glow...really neat. www.picasa.com

a worthy goal with the camera

Check this out! http://www.homesteadblogger.com/AHomesteadDaughter/123583

I've been a crazy picture-taker for years but never got this good... now I've got motivation to get better.
Good luck to you! (P.S. read the manual that came with the camera... little by little should do the trick!)

blurry kiddos

I have the same problem, even with my perfectly behaved children ;) I am too busy to become the awesome semi-pro photographer I'd like to be and even when I had Photoshop, I stunk at it. My best weapon is the "sports" setting on my camera. It's meant for taking action shots. With my kids, unless they're asleep (and even then sometimes) every shot is an action shot. On my camera it looks like a little golfer. My photos are so much better since I started using that.

Another favorite is the low light/no flash portrait setting. You have to be very still to use it and so does your subject but it's good for things like a picture of a kid watching a movie and not looking at you :D The shutter (I think) stays open longer to absorb more of the available light (I think) so you don't need the flash. My house is so dark (and cool!) that I need this setting even in the daytime.

Of course, Illoura makes a VERY good point about reading that little book that came with the camera. Where is that little book anyway?? Maybe mine is hanging out with yours ;)

Love you!

Not sure what brand of camera you have. I have a Kodak digital. I've downloaded the Kodak photoshop on the computer. I love to play with it. I took a picture of Nickie, loaded it onto the Kodak program, played around with it and was able to get a photo that looks pretty good...almost professional.
So, if your camera happens to be a Kodak... have fun!

Love the photos....I got a new camera from dh for our anniversary and so 2009 will be the year of learning all about my camera....I think maybe I will try one new thing a week as it took me two months just to learn about ISO.:-) I guess I'm a slow learner.

Looks like you are underway to learning also.

Have a blessed week.
