Laundry Cents

Good Morning, I hope you are all having a lovely Tuesday.  I feel like I could lie back down... yawn.    Morning time is here and it is time to get busy around our homestead.  Laundry is BECKONING to be washed, and I have a home to clean, as well as a friends children to watch today.
It is a good thing I have such fine helpers... laundry would be a dreadful task if I didn't have them...
We have been without a dryer for at least 2 weeks now... it has made the laundry task a bit more difficult but not too bad at all.  I have been line drying most everything before our dryer went out, but you know sometimes there is the occasional lingering load or a rainy day... the dryer is nice to have on those times but not essential... we are getting along just swimmingly without it... Especially when I looked it up and found out just how much I save every time I don't use the dryer! My friend Smallnotebook
has this chart on her blog showing us how to figure how much it costs to run this or that.

1. Start with the number next to the letter A or Amps on the label.	30
2. In the US, multiply by 120 for appliances that you plug into the wall (except use 240 for dryers). Outside of the US, find your voltage here	x 120
3. Divide by 1000.	/ 1000
4. Multiply by the number of hours (It takes 45 minutes to dry a load, so I’ll use .75).	x .75
5. Multiply by the average kWh price on your electric bill.	x 0.15

  My dryer costs me .81 cents a load!!!!
If I dried all my loads I would spend an average of $26.00 a month, and $312 a year!!!!!!!
Now I don't know about you, but that is HUGE for us, that is a remarkable savings... I do not plan on repairing my dryer anytime soon, so it is a whole lot easier to save!
Take a peek at the calculations, they are quite astonishing... just how much could we be saving in this time where frugality is so important.

Me too!

I started using my clothesline when my dryer went out also. My hubby was going to fix it and I said no thank you I want to take advantage of that nice 3 strand clothesline you made for me. And so for the past few weeks I have been hanging all our laundry and you know what?It IS great. I love the smell of the fresh sun dried clothes, and they dry faster than my dryer too. My 7 year old loves to help me with it and we do it together. On real hot days it is so cute to see her wrap a damp kitchen cloth around her head so she doesn't get too hot while we are out there. (I am sure that is why women wore bonnets once upon a time -it gets HOT in ok) The only draw back is rough towels, but we can live with it.

dryers and rainy days

I say, save your dryer for a rainy day..........and when you DO you use your dryer: dry, don't fry. We take our clothes out damp and they are less wrinkly.

not using a dryer

I have had my dryer disconnected for quite some time now. I just dry the clothes in drying racks on the porch while the rain comes down. Have a great wednesday - it is quite early here :)
