keep the water running

don't know if I ever shared this or not, but just in case not, here goes

We have spring water, but the former owners who definitely were NOT rocket scientists, or even remotely related to one, took apart the gravity flow system and installed a pump. (that story is for another post)  Anyway, if the water even gets a small ice chip in it it shuts off the pump then it freezes solid. Well the pump and pressure tank are in a small cinder block enclosure we call the "pumphouse". Of course the not so intelligent former owners tried twelve layers of insulating foam to no avail and the water continually froze. Their loss our gain, it is what made them move back to TX. Our solution? A $20 electric room heater in the pump house, works great! Especially with all that insulation, it is toasty in there!
