New Farm ShopG and I went to explore the new farm shop that's opened up near our offices at lunchtime, and I think I'll detinitely be going back. They had bags of apples for £1 containing 14 apples, so we've supplemented our apple supply (as we get through loads and always end up supplementing from Tesco). I thought that was a brilliant deal, as at Tesco we pay about £1.50 for about 7 apples, usually. I also bought a small amount of beetroot, because I rather fancy pickling it so we can have it with cold meat in the winter. I've never either pickled anything or eaten anything pickled, so this is rather an experiment, but we'll see how it goes. It has the tops attached, so I guess I ought to cook those as well to see what they're like. They had lots of other marvellous things in there: local cheese and meats, eggs, goose eggs, bread, jams and whatnot, and other ordinary vegetables like onions and leeks and courgettes. Including some monster courgettes that were a couple of feet long. I don't even think I could transport one of those, let alone find a use for it. One of the best things about the shop is that it's really close to work and it's open till 6pm, so I could, conceivably, go after work if I needed to pick something up for supper.
