Burns Best Farm

Country Weekend

09:39, 2006-Apr-1 .. 0 comments .. Link

After packing up the car and then sitting in volume traffic at 9:00 PM last night, we finally made it to the farm for a several day stay.  Drove through some rain, which we needed in a bad way, but woke up to sunny skies and just a bit of fog, a little precursor to what should be a warm day with the first of our fabled humidity.

Up here, we are a whole half-zone different than in the city, and while that doesn't seem like much, you can really see a delay in how quickly things bud, flower out and then ripen.  The local weatherman (the one with some credibility, anyway) said yesterday that the temps look good until mid-month and by the middle of next week he should have some idea on if we'll see any more cold/frost.  Frost date is the 20th.

Hopefully with the new raised beds the soil temp is already working it's way up, and I have a lot of transplanting to do this weekend.  We are observing spring break this next week, so there should not be any excuses for the garden being behind!

I haven't been out to the berry bushes yet, but I am interested to see if the baby frost from last Saturday night did any damage to the early varieties. I was so looking forward to some June berries.

Check in later after we get some real work done!
