Free Land in Alaska

12:27, 2007-Mar-17 .. Posted in Random Thoughts .. 7 comments .. Link

A modern day homestead opportunity in Anderson, Alaskafree land.  The article details the landscape/terrain and the temperature ranges throughout the year.  The town sounds like it's full of what we all move to the country for:  low crime, quiet, and a do-it-yourself spirit.

Pass it along.....free land!

FREE LAND IN ALASKA

IT'S A GREAT IDEA. NOT READY FOR ANOTHER 2 YEARS. IF THE LOTS ARE GIVEN AWAY TO THE LOCALS, THEN HOW DO THEY EXPECT TO BRING IN NEW PEOPLE AND BUSINESSES?
I'D LIKE TO SEE ACTUAL PHOTOS OF THE LAND AND THE TOWN.

That was neat to look at, I googled a map of Anderson Alaska, and panned way out, we are such a tiny dot at the bottom of the U.S.
Ya Know, living in GA I have a tendency to forget how much land is out there. One day, One day.

:-)

Free Land?

It sounds great and seems very progressive in its open attempt to market rural-type, urban living. I'm looking at modular log cabins and the maps to see exactly how viable this opportunity is for me!

Bad news

I think its a HORRIBLE idea. Horrible horrible horrible. Not only are you cutting down hundreds of acres of beautiful wildlife....but you are replacing it with cheap American \"junk\" houses that aren\'t environmentally sufficient. Soon you won\'t be able to see the northern lights or have a nice view of the mountain because of SMOG and pollution. There are also plenty of articles on criminals who end up moving to Alaska to escape the law and the worst inmates in the country end up in Alaskan jails. I hope you realize you\'d be giving away free land to a bunch of people who think they are getting away from rules. Your crime rate will go up drastically. If the town has such a problem with the size they should DESERT it...plow over their house and plant some trees and move to a developed town.....there are PLENTY of junk houses and malls going up here. The people in that town obviously haven\'t see how it would affect the environment and security around them. They are IGNORANT of you ask me!

We currently live in Anchorage and are seriously considering this. It isn't in the area we originally were planning on, but the fact that you don't have to have a house for 2 years means we'd have 2 years to get things wrapped up around here. My only concern is that it is only 1.3 acres. I'd want more than that. And what about restrictions? Would they allow animals, etc? I would love to find some more info on this.

But yeah, Hubby and I are seriously considering this.

Great Idea!

I think it is a great idea that the town of Anderson has come up with. Only serious people will actually make it - I think the winters will weed out alot of people. I wish there were something like this down here in Southeast Alaska - I'd be all over that! It is smart of them to vote on who they will let in too - I see they are looking for families and entrepeneurs to help build their town's economy. I wish them luck!
