God shows his faithfulness, again!
One way that our family "eats from the land" is through my husband's deer hunting. We LOVE deer meat (it took me the first 6 years of marriage to figure out how to cook it, but now that I know some secrets.... which I would be happy to share.... we eat it like crazy)! We can EASILY eat 3 deer a year. Last year my hubby had a challenging hunting season.... it wasn't for lack of trying, God just shut the door. He will admit that for the first year ever, he was worshiping the antlers. (Thank you Randy and Shelly for blessing us with deer meat last year!!) Since then he has REPENTED, and gotten his heart back on the right track. God does draw near to us when we humble ourselves, my husband is living proof. Tonight he shot his 3rd deer of the season. Praise the Lord!!!! We now will have a stocked freezer for winter! It is especially exciting because he was able to get all three with a bow and arrow.... a much bigger challenge. The first 2 that he got were "humble" kills, not the kind that build up any kind of macho, manly, sportsman's ego. They were simply meat in the freezer kills. They were NOT mounting quality to say the least. However, he stayed humble and was genuinely thankful for the meat God provided. Tonight, God blessed him!!! The deer he shot tonight will give us LOTS of meat.... it is the largest bodied deer he has ever gotten!!!! And to top that off, it has the best rack of any he has ever shot in more than 17 years of hunting!!!!!!! It is a beauty!!! When he asked if we could mount it, I said "Merry Christmas" and the kids all said together "Merry Christmas, Dad"!!! All he could say is, God blesses when you keep your heart right. Keeping the greed out, keeping the lust of the antler out, focusing on feeding his family and trusting God has proven to be the way to go! Even if he hadn't gotten this beauty of a deer, I know his heart would have stayed on the right track.... he learned his lesson last year, logging in almost 300 hours in the woods with nothing to show for it!

whoo hoo!
| I feel your joy! We are waiting to be blessed with some venison this year. Ds has been hunting, but has so much less time now. DH has been short on time, too. We mostly live on venison and our own raised chicken for meat. I have grown to love venison (used to hate it) and we are lost because we are out right now! The trophy is a nice plus, and we have had a few....they are instructed to shoot anything legal this year, because we have missed out when they didn't. We only ended up with one deer last year...not enough! |
