December Update

Once a month seems to be all I can manage to update.  Thanksgiving in MI was fun.  First time in a while we had all our kids, their spouses and children in 1 place - yes we took a picture.  Basketball is rolling - or is that bouncing - along. VERY busy. We are finishing up school work for the holidays. Bailey got some cookies done this morning - we have more fudge to make and more hot cocoa mixes to prepare. The children did almost all of the decorating this year, the house looks good and I was able to help Steve more since we are trying to finish moving the office still. Activities seem to just keep humming along - we are trying harder not to be on the go so much BUT when there are so many of you there doesn't seem to be a way to avoid much of the busyness...we'll keep trying. New family photo - note new daughter-in law to be Shannon is in there - WEDDING coming March 1, 2008 - we can't wait.

Fall

I wish I could say Fall is here.  While Fall activities are here the heat continues.  Soccer this year is HOT.  I'm coaching the Lady Patriots (Varsity girls - homeschool team) and we have had far too many over 100 degree games.  Other than the heat the team is really coming along great. It has been interesting coaching my own daughter.  I'm learning alot.  Jason has been racing his new race car - place 3rd last week in the feature race at Berlin.  His mother-in-law is relived that racing is done for this season!  Lauren, Bailey and Gerrit started red soccer this week.  First real team for G.  Should be fun.  Life is busy - we still have soooooo much work that Steve is gone many hours.  Since we are back in a full school schedule it is harder for me to help him out.  Our lighter summer school schedule is so much more enjoyable but that schedule won't get done what I think should get done so we are back to full school schedule.  Beth is taking an outside class this year - Biology.  This is different for us since other than music we usually do it all at home.  Awana has started and I am loving my switch to Puggles.  I had 5 Puggles last week and we had 7 cubbies.  This should be a fun year.  I taught 3 workshops at the conference.  That was a crazy weekend.  Bailey and Gerrit had soccer and Beth and Lauren had Basketball camp. Daddy needed to work and I had the Awana conference.  Then Sunday Daddy, G and I left to take an order to Mongomery AL. Got back Monday and headed off to soccer practices - Beth and I went one way Lauren another.  It seems that's the way it will be for a few more weeks - Lady Patriots are done Oct 2 - but basketball ramps up immediately.  I've forgotten how intense highschool sports are.  This has been rambling but an update none the less...

Time is such an issue

Life is flying past.  We are very busy. That is such an understatement.  So far this year we have added a delightful new granddaughter (grand child #5), lost a precious dog, bought 2 new buildings to move our family business into, some of us have been to Michigan and back while a couple of others did a coast to coast motorcycle trip,  We celebrated 27 years of marriage. One son graduated college and began his grad work.  Our youngest turned 5.  We now have 2 married, 1 in grad school, 1 in high school, 1 in jr high, 1 in elementary and 1 still preschool.  I feel stretched.  Our 17 year old nephew is staying with us for the summer.  Our "extra" son who lived with us last year before his marriage had a very serious motorcycle accident - he is healing but it will be slow.  The girls have done leadership camp, tennis camp, and crosspoint. It is now the end of July and I'm not sure where the summer has gone.  We do get to play some - not as much as we have in past summers since we are moving the business.  The pool is still getting a work out most days however.  The birthday party we had for Kelsey & Beth was big fun. The drought seems to be ending - it will take time to catch up - most of my plants look like it is early June not late July.  Will & Jenn's garden is producing great however since they were able to water some.  My herbs look good also and we have been picking and using as well as drying.  Kate's health is pretty good - God has been gracious to show us a diet that works well for her and keeps her off most meds.  Leah will go to school this year and Drew is doing a pre-school so she will get a little break with only one to home during those hours.  Other fun of the summer was curriculum fair.  We really enjoy getting to see people we don't usually see any other time of the year.  The Hendry's were with us again and we so enjoy their company.  This is the rambling up date that I should have done ages ago.  Time to go - we are moving the paint booth to the new building today and Beth has soccer practice, Gerrit is invited to a little birthday party, John and Beth have practice at church for a band/skit and Redeemed thing.... Life continues to fly

Fun, Sun and such

After a very busy month, we took a few days and went to Florida.  Spent a couple of days with my dad, did a day of Magic Kingdom and then saw Kate & J when they flew in to start their vacation.  The weather was great - 80ish each day.  The flea market with Dad & Judy was fun - my girls love a flea market.  I wish my dad was feeling better.  Hopefully the Dr. will get this irregular heartbeat stabilized after he gets back from his winter in Florida. The Magic Kingdom was magical - I am not a big amusement park person at all but Gerrit loved every minute and the girls were having so much fun.  It was good to see Kate & Jason and of course I love seeing my babies.  Kate had to have 2 IVs before they came but was doing well when we were there.  Praying the week is fun and restful for them. Jr gets back next week from Thailand - he can't wait to get here and we can't wait to get him here! It is only about 5-6 weeks now until Cecilia May arrives.  We are really excited to get her here.  Jenn is doing well but I'm sure she is ready to have her here too!

Work is crazy busy and since we bought a new building we are trying to get work out the door and prepare to move.  There really is not enough hours in the day.  We move the business the end of March into April - right when Cecilia is due of course.  Poor Will he will be so busy.  I guess this is just the nature of family business - we get to be together alot and we have to get together alot.  God will arrange the schedule just the way it needs to be.  We will just need to be flexible and go God's way.

Fun and headaches

Bible quizzing went terrific.  Bailey and Lauren's teams both took 1st places and our church took first overall.  Awana Bible Quizzing is a great way to plant  scripture in a child's heart and mind.  I am amazed at what the kids memorize and then are able to recall in everyday situations.  Twelve churches participated and everyone had a good day.

Valentine's Day cooking went well.  All the kids helped super and the meal was well received.  Instead of buffet style like we usually do on Wednesday, the kids served the adults on china. The adults only had good things to say about the teens.  My pray is that the kids learn a little more about a servant's heart.

Last Sunday evening someone smashed the window on my excursion and stole my purse while I was at church.  It bothers me because they probably watched me.  I had quite a few bags and a pre-schooler to get in to church so I stashed my black bag under the middle seat.  It wasn't visable - especially through my darkened windows.  It is such a headache to remember everything in it and to report everything and fill out all the reports.  We had to get the window fixed - we keep finding glass in the truck.  It has seemed like a very long week.

Jenn and Will's dog had puppies this week - we got  there in time to watch some being born - Gerrit was amazed by the birth.  Good experience.  I think treating  birth and death as normal events ordained by God is so important for children to see.

Basketball was fun today.  We have next week off from bball and then there is only a coulp of weeks left.  Soccer will start almost as basketball ends.  The physical activity is good for the crew but I do get tired of running for practices and games.  I like to stay home.  I can't wear my apron at the soccer field!

Which reminds me - I got a fun new cook book - Foods to Live By.  It's the Earthbound organic cook book.  I am really loving this one.  It uses some foods that we don't use (pork mainly) but overall is really good.

Beth went to a fun Valentine Party today.  You were to come as a character from a book and bring valentines to match the character.  Her friend was Queen Esther and did cute valentines with a quote from Esther.  Beth was Christopher Robin and had valentines with a quote from Winnie the Pooh. If there ever comes a day when we can't be together keep me in your heart, I'll stay there forever.- Winnie the Pooh
T
hey were cute cards with a little red heart and wrapped in a red wrap tied with a bow.

I'd like to think the week will be quieter but I am dreaming - we have alot of work to do this week - the joy of family business.

I missed January...

I guess I really don't have time to write much!  January is gone and we are a week into February.  Our business is growing very fast and takes much time.  Once schoolwork is finished up for the day I quickly begin my "other" work.  The girls are doing well with their chores and we really do get a lot done each day - there just is always more to do.

January held a birthday for Dylan and Will - both were fun.  My daddy came to visit and the girls are playing Upward basketball.  Basketball games take up Saturday mornings right now.  We are busy studing for Bible Quiz.  Girls are excited to quiz.  We have been trying new recipes in the kitchen since it has been so cold we haven't been outside as much.  It did snow here last week and Gerrit had so much fun .  The girls helped him build a snow man and he drove his gator everywhere in the snow. They used their boogy boards to slide down the back hill.  Jr is in Thailand teaching. It has been a  challenge and he has learned as much as the children I think.  I am anxious for him to get home.

We will be cooking dinner at church on Valentine's Day.  The high schoolers will help me and it is a youth fund raiser.  I've decided on honey mustard chicken, rice, carrots, rolls and salad.  All the moms are baking for dessert.  It should be fun and the more mature folks at church love having the kids serve them.  It is a good time to get all the ages to interact.

We hope to see Grandpa and Grandma J the  end of the month and Kate & J too.  Kate's lupus has flared lately and she has struggled.  Lacey is all better after her bout with RSV and then pneumonia.  She was home for Christmas but wasn't well yet.  Drew will be 3 next week and is now proudly potty trained.  Leah has really enjoyed pre-school.  Jenn is getting ready for Cecila to arrive.  Time is flying by and her due date is just around the corner.

Well I need to make another garlic poltice.  Bailey is up and has an earache - she has struggled with congestion for a few days and it appears it has drained in her ear tubes.  The garlic should stop any infection.  Maybe she can sleep the day away and heal.  I'll try to update more often!

December decimates

So far the month has been interesting - Chicken pox can really change the schedule.  December is so busy with outside activities that adding in chicken pox has challenged me.  We are still so busy at ECI that I need to spend more time that usual on office work.  Steve & Will are working long hours.(this is an understatement)  However, the house is nicely decorated, most of the baking is done - we have to make  korve yet, and the shopping is close to finished. I need time for  some projects but I am not sure where to carve that time from right now.  The girls need to finish up some school work since we have had days off for chicken pox.   Jr finished up exams today and so except for his student teaching HE'S DONE.  I'm not sure which one of us is more excited.  I think mom deserves some sort of degree too...  Now the master work begins after returning from Thailand.  Will and Jenn are still working on the house.  Lot's of little projects.  Dylan has decided to talk non stop.  I can't wait to figure out what all he is saying. Kate & Jason are really enjoying their new church and small group.  Kate is still teaching at the YMCA (swimming lessons).  The kids are well and growing.  Leah is still loving cubbies and preschool.  Drew loves to play with his "dudes" (as he calls his friends) at the Y.  Lacey just goes with the flow.  I really need to feel caught up but I guess that isn't going to happen anytime soon.  I feel like I am going nonstop and there is no end in sight to the work.  I like to work but I think I would like to rest too.  I have a real need to be creative and the pace I'm going at just doesn't seem to allow any creative time.  I have got some crocheting done but little to no sewing and forget about any design work.  Maybe after Christmas... I'm not holding my breath.

November in General

The month is about gone.  It has been very busy and at times stressful.  We started the month with Judgement House.  It was good and a great experience for my kids to reach out.  Then we had 2 weeks of go go go to get as much done as possible before we left for MI on the 18th.  We spent a week up north - thankfully it was not a cold year.  We had fun - we spent good time with Kate & J and kids.  Saw some others and then did Thanksgiving.  Had to bake in Kate's kitchen - forgot how hard it is to use someone else's kitchen.  Even my own daughter's! Got to see Chuck and Sheryl's new house. Really missed having Will & Jenn with us but understood they wanted to be home.  Steve Jr brought Boone with him and that was fun.  They went further north and took pictures and played.  Sr and I with Gerrit went to White Lake on Friday after Thanksgiving and really enjoyed that.  After the guys went shooting on Saturday AM we headed SOUTH.  Leah cried and that always makes me feel so bad.  Gerrit and Andrew played so well this time that was fun.  Arrived home Sunday to a clean house - thanks to Pam. Everything is now put away and last load of laundry is in washer.  Tonight all should be back to normal other than tomorrow has to be a large baking day to get back on top of bread and other such things. Gerrit thinks he is going to starve before I make more waffles! Yogurt needs to be made... So much to catch up on after being gone a whole week.  THEN we must start Christmas decorating.  Everything is already planned just needs to be executed.  Maybe after girls get schoolwork done today they can get going on some of the decorating.  Reading this seems like we did so little yet I know much was accomplished.

It's raining, it's pouring...

It has rained all week - meaning ALL the children can't go and play - well very much anyway.  We have had our share of playing in the rain.  The kitchen floor certainly looks like we have all been out playing in the mud! The dogs are damp and smelly, the garage is frightful since that is where the dogs seem to want to be when then can't be in and they can't be out. We have 3 dogs and a cat and are keeping a friends dog while they are gone.  Add to the animals the 4 younger children and a grandson who is here right now and you have dampness everywhere.  Will and Jenn and Dylan are with us yet this week - their house should be ready this weekend to move into.  We have had so much fun together. I love having Jenn here - my younger girls are great helpers but I had forgot, since Kate has been married 5 years now, now nice it is to have an older one around. Jr is home from college on Fall break and the young man who is staying with us also has a college friend visiting on fall break.  We have a house full (slept 12 here last night!) It has been great to have extra time with Dylan.  He and Gerrit have become such pals.  I hope Gerrit begins to see how Dylan watches him and does everything he does.  I have worried about it being different for our baby than the olders but maybe his relastionship with his nephew with solve some of that.

As far as activity updates, soccer is almost over. This Saturday and then next and it is done.  Then basketball can start.  I'm not sure I'm ready but the girls love to play.  Jr just returned from Nicuragua.  It seems to have been a great trip.  Now we have to get him ready to go to Thailand in January to student teach.  Kate seems to be doing ok managing her lupus.  Inflamation in joints is causing some trouble right now.  Praying organs don't flare.  Jason is busier at work which is good.  Leah is loving pre-school and cubbies. Drew is being 2 all the way - quite the talker for a 2 year old boy.  Lacey is a delighful little bug.  Will & Jenn's house is looking terrific.  Just a little trim painting to do and some bathroom work.  We are all getting ready for Judgement House at church.

Fall or Falling or failing...

Another month has blown past.  We have started the full fall schedule and seem to be going all the time.  Even though we limit activities we still seem way too busy.  Girls are playing soccer and that is going well.  We are trying to get Will and Jenn 's house finished so they can get moved .  County Fair has come & gone - many ribbons and awards. Sunday was canceled due to the storm that came in over night. Kate & Jason and kids were here for Fair.  We had a great time.  It seems like the projects are just piling up around here.  We are getting schoolwork done but not much more than that!  ECI is still very busy.  We  are trying to get the last of the Amerisuites out the door.  Jr is working and going to school.  Life flys by  - I don't want to miss it but it sure seems like that is happening right now.

Where has summer gone?

So much going on and it feels like we never had summer.  Things change too fast for me right now. Changes at church - which only feel like more work to do.  Changes at home which feels like more work to do and on top of that it is time to return to a full school schedule from the modified summer schedule we keep.  I do have school schedules prepared but I really don't want to get going again.  I'd love to just spend mornings at home cleaning and cooking and creating then spend the afternoon at the pool reading and playing.  On the other hand ECI business is good and we are really busy. Kate & J are planning to come down in September. Steve Jr has a new job at First Baptist Cleveland and is back in school for his final year.  Will and Jenn are doing well - getting ready to buy a house - baby #2 due in April - Jenn is taking classes at UTC.  Beth, Lauren and Bailey are working hard and growing delightfully.  Gerrit is the sweetest boy and is becoming a little man.  He loves to help more and more and is so independeant at times.  I can't wait to see Leah, Drew and Lacey.  Dylan is growing  so - he's really a toddler now.

Awana Conference was great today.  Danny Lovett is a terrific speaker.  TTU's facilities were great and it was a well spent day.  I stopped at the farm and got fabulous produce.  We had a yummy white chicken chili and our great home made bread.  Tomorrow is a busy day and the week is too.  Then it is Labor Day Weekend.

Time Flies...

I thought time only flew when you were having fun.  O'h well I guess that is not the case. On June 24 we  took Beth and Lauren to Awana Scholarship Camp.  Then on June 29 we left for Michigan for Megan's wedding on the 30th.  After a delightful time at the wedding we spent a few days with Kate and J and the kids and saw other family as well and then returned home on July 3.  The girls had returned from camp on the 30th and Will and Jenn had stayed with them.  They were so glad  to see us even though they had much fun with their big brother and sister-in-law and nephew.  At 2 am on the 4th, Jr's room mate brought him home to us.  It seems he had been vomiting for hours and now had the runs too.  He laid very quiet all day the 4th and 5th recovering from that bug. The rest of us spent relax time at the pool on the 4th.  Hit the ground running with oodles of work to do on the 5th and haven't stopped yet.  Steve and Will left for a training seminar in Ohio on Sunday. Jr had already left on Friday evening to go to New Jersey to get a motorcycle. His truck broke down on Sunday - thankfully he had Boone with him. They had to wait until Monday to rent a truck and tow dolly. They pulled in late afternoon. Steve & Will are expected home late Tuesday.  Meanwhile I helped the girls pack and got them off to camp Crosspoint with church. It is quiet here this evening - just Bailey and Gerrit home with mom.  I had to work at the shop all day after getting the girls to camp since Steve is gone. It was a very busy day and I didn't get much of my own work done just other peoples.... which begs the question why can't they do their own? That is not the way it works today.  I'll be in the shop tomorrow also and then maybe some time on Wednesday to catch up on my work.  Bible study Wednesday night and then back to the shop on Thursday & Friday. I never have to spend so much time in the shop but we have so much work right now that if I don't help Steve and the boys we'll never get to see them.

Maybe Wednesday I'll get some sewing done - I think I am day dreaming.  I also have reading I want to get caught up on and school planning to do... Then there's garden and yard work.  The kids get alot done but there are some things I just like to do.

Summer Rollercoaster

I am wishing for the lazy days of summer!  They are not at my house.  It seems the more we try to slow down the faster life goes.  Last week was VBS at church.  The kids had a great time but busy every night.  This week Pam is gone so we are juggling without her help. Monday we got up to needing to do a lot of laundry - after we washed the first load the power went out.  We had also just started the crockpot for supper and the bread machine.  So off to the laundromat we went and to run some errands.  The power came back on about 1:30 p.m. so we still got supper finished up and some housework done.  Tuesday, I needed to get office work done. Wednesday was house and then church. Thursday was office again since I'm trying to get organised with the big Hyatt job we have in house.  We also packed the girls for camp and CLEANED their room.  Today we will finish preparing for camp, take the girls to Sonlight choir and babysit for a neighbor. There is a special prayer time tonight at church but I don't think we'll make it back down there.  The guys are working LONG hours and in this heat they are beat. Beth & Lauren leave for camp on Saturday. We will go the following weekend to Michigan for a wedding.

26 Years

Today my precious husband and I have been married 26 years.  I can't imagine where the years have gone. Just yesterday we were highschoolers ourselves - now we have graduated 3 from high school and have 4 more to go!  I could not have known all those years ago how much more I would love him today then I did then.  I could not have known how perfectly God prepared each of us to be together - good and bad times.  I am so thankful for the righteous, responsible, noble, integrity filled mighty man of God that God has placed in my life.  God is Good - ALL THE TIME.  No updates today - that must wait for another day - today we are thankful.

Summer Time

I really enjoy summer.  My favorite season is still Fall but I do enjoy the schedule of summer.  This week the girls are doing Kay McDaniels tennis camp at Lee U and then we come home do a quick house pick up and go to the pool.  The girls are loving camp.  ECI is really busy and I need to help Steve more right now.  Thankfully Pam is able to help alot right now.  Last weekend was Rachel's graduation and party - lots of fun.  It was fun to see so many kids we know graduate.  Andrew Sweeney's sax solo was terrific - How great thou art.  It has been exactly a year since Gerrit was diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease. Praise God he is completely healthy.  Today are hearts are heavy for our friends the Vanettas - they lost their 16 year old son to a bacterial infection.  We also had a young man from church lose his father to heart disease. It is good to see  God work even in the midst of sorrow.  We are compelled to lift them up in prayer.  Steve Jr is in his first week of sail camp.  He is already as brown as a native American Indian!  We did a flat of strawberries yesterday - some jam some frozen.  The Jam is made with honey and is so good.  We really need to do 1 more flat.  Baking needs to get done after camp tomorrow then its off to church.  I am loving my time with the ladies for bible study.  I need to hire summer nursery workers but I have no idea who to get.  This is really rambling but I guess that is summer for you.  My roses are lovely right now and the herb garden is going wild.  I best get some cut and drying soon.

Have to vs want to

There is so much I have to do and so much I want to do and they are just not getting together.  The week has been jammed with softball and I cooked supper for the church (150 people) on Wednesday night.  This was after Awana awards Sunday night.  I was very surprised and honored by the plaque presented in my honor.  We have a huge complicated order in house for ECI so I have to spend extra time on that.  God is very gracious to bless our business. Curriculum Fair is full and there are still many details to finish up. We have Jennie Contarinos wedding tonight which will be fun but I really want to head to the campground and chill.  Besides chilling I want time to sew, read and crochet. I want sketch time and the list goes on... BUT I have to remember that Lord willing the day will come for this type of thing.  The children will grow up and I will not have the demands on my time.  I still can't imagine that day.  I feel so selfish wanting to do all this for me.  While some recharge time is always necessary I know it is more about serving than being served.  MY head knows I have to keep implementing it day by day and hour by hour - sometimes minute by minute.

SO much to do...

Mother's Day weekend was fun.  We camped at our favorite county park.  We had a site right on the water so the kids could fish, blow bubbles, feed the ducks and in general have great fun while mom sat and read and enjoyed.  Steve grilled chicken and we had delious food. But back to the real world on Monday.  The girls have had a lot of softball this week and we are scurrying to get all the end of year stuff done for AWANA. Still have to finish up the powerpoint for the awards program Sunday night.   We had sewing projects to finish (I finished a darling apron) and we needed to get some school work finished up.  The girls are ready for a summer schedule.  We have picked out our summer reading and then they will do math every day (review mostly).  We have been very busy with a large order at the shop.  It is great to get but also difficult to get all the details correct.  We have to get a lot done by today since Will & Jenn are leaving on vacation this weekend.  It will be hard to have them gone for a week - both work wise and not seeing them for a week. A tounament starts tonight at the softball fields. I think we will be there all day tommorrow with all 3 girls playing.  Nic leaves on a weekend retreat but I think Steve Jr will be home for the weekend. I have to head down to the pool to check on the landscape work there since the electrician finished his work. The pool guy will be here next week to open the pool -we are behind since we had to have work done.  Hopefully the heater will warm it up fast enough for us to be swimming on Memorial Day weekend. Rambling over - time to get busy.

three working together, than the three working individually.

The rain has cleared

The rain has cleared up.  It seemed to rain every time we needed to do anything all week. The week was dictated by softball games. Household wise we did get the winter clothes changed over to spring and then some cleaning got done.  Baking was at a minimum since we had so many errands to run and games to play.  Friday was a fun day at Lake Winnie - it did rain some but all enjoyed still.  Gerrit loved a ride called the Frog Hopper.  I hope the pictures of his face on that ride turn out.  Friday evening Beth went to Jessica's birthday party.  Beth made the cutest tote bag for Jessica. Both Lauren & Bailey played softball games that night. Saturday morning Bailey had a game then we picked up Beth and ran errands on that side of town.  Then Lauren had a game.  Beth went to babysit at the neighbors. After Lauren's game we stopped by a birthday party for a friend from church. We came home showered everyone and fell into bed.  Sunday was a busy day - services in the morning, bridal shower in the afternoon and then evening services. We stopped out to eat after evening service at our favorite Mexican place.  This week we will finish most of the planned school work for the year.  I have summer reading and math prepared so we will start that schedule next week.  We have everything planted now and all seems to be doing well.  Time to get weeding I guess. We cleaned the deck area better on Saturday - it is lovely to sit out there and do some of our school work.  On the surface the house looks clean but we have some drawers, cupboards and closets that need attention. Well this is laundry day and it is dry enough to get clothes hung out.  Bailey lost another tooth last night - at age 8 she is in the midst of loose teeth!  Sometimes I can't get over how much she looks like me.  With 3 other girls that look like their dad and 2 of our 3 boys look like him too it amazes me to see her resemble me.  Lacey Jane is sick with a tummy bug.  HOpe it does't spread any further at Kate's house.  Kate is struggling, changing meds again.  We are praying for healing and stability.
