#1 using the solar powered dryer !
#2 combining any runs to town to include all errands that need done--in one shot--rather than numerous runs to town during the week, if it isn't a necessity--it waits.
#3 cooking/prep of double batches of meals, saves time, and electricity at the same time ;)
#4 take a bucket in the shower and collect extra water that would otherwise go down the drain for critters and plants
#5 reuse foil whenever possible
#6 hang bath towels over shower rod to dry and use more than once....(we are terrible--we all use 2-3 towels per person, per bath/shower!)
#7 all food scraps go to chickens
#8 burn all paper trash - recycle all that we can otherwise
#9 as my grampa always said, if you're cold......PUT ON A SWEATER! (keeping pellet stove off!)
#10 thin down homemade laundry soap with hot water--STRETCH it outttt.
#11 girls do spelling words on their slates--they love it--saves paper! :)
#12 Avoid driving anywhere that is not completely neccessary.....period. It's went up almost 40cents a gal. in the last 6 weeks. 20 cents over the last 9 days.!!!!! UG!
I'll be back with more. :)

This is Melissa from Home Sweet Home. I am on HSB and not anonymous;)
We do a variety of things.
1. We have turned up the thermostat.
2. Plan my meals based on what is on sale that we like at the store.
3. no soda or juice, water and milk only pretty much
4. fewer trips into town.
5. ordering from online when prices are comparable so I don't have to drive to shop.
6. Mail packages and buy stamps from home mailbox
7. Buy bread at the bread store. Day old, but still great!
8. Buy clothes at Goodwill
9. Coupons
10. membership to Sam's and use cards at CVS and Food Lion
11. We have big shop from Drugstore.com periodically. We buy our vitamins mostly and other toiletries. They are shipped to our door, if we spend more than a certain amount (I think it is 50.00), it gets delivered for free and we get money back to use as credit once every three months. And they are nice. When you place your order, say you order 60.00 worth of stuff, then you have a 20.00 credit with your cash back, they still ship for free!

I am sorry to say that we have been using the same budget for years. We write out all of the diffreant expenses and how much we are spending in each. We stay true to the budget and if the money is not there we do not spend it. We also do not use credit cards at all.

2006-Apr-27 - waxed paper
Posted by morningsunshine
I save the wax paper from our cereal boxes (yes - we buy the more expensive cereal - my husband will only eat Grapenuts and my FIL only cheerios! and that is all we have, except when I am pregnant and have to have Life). I use this to line my pans when I make lasagne, enchiladas, etc and then freeze them, pop them out of my pans and refreeze in a freezer bag.
I also use this to seperate deli meats and cheeses I find on sale when I freeze those so I can use only a serving at a time.
and, whenever wax paper is needed - it is good, solid quality.

I am not sure that these are new ideas but they work for us..
1. If you have cats use shredded up newspaper for there litter.. It works great and really cuts down on there oder.
2. Save butter wrapers and use them to butter your pans.
3. Save all your worn out clothes cut them up and use them to make rugs, quilts, hankies, cleaning rags, etc.
4. Reuse zip locks bags. Wash them real well and use them again..
5. Make all your cleaners.
6. place buckets under your house where water runs off and save the water for the garden and the animals.
7. Wash clothes by hand with a wash board. This has saved us a lot of money over the past almost year.
8. Eat less meat. Eat more vegs , rice, and beans.
9. Bake all you can from scratch. Bread, cookies, pies, etc
10. Buy in bulk. Dont waste your time or money buying in 5# bags.. Buy in at least 25# at a time..
11. STAY OUT OF THE STORES.. This is the best thing i can say to anyone. It you want to save money do not go to the stores.. Stay home..
12. When you are going anywhere take a bottle of water and a snack with you this will keep you from stopping and getting something..
Hope this helps..
