This homeschool Mom isn't doing so well with public school.

My niece Selena is living with us but has to do public school. We have homeschooled for two years now,and I am finding it hard having my kids at home and her in public.I feel like the school expects so much from her (all kids really). She had to due a report on bats, and she can only read a little. So my kids and I helped but I just get overwelmed sometimes. We finsh school by 2o'clock or earlier most days, her bus gets in around 4:30(she has a long ride)and she has homework every night except Friday.I know I'm complaing too much but the school has her 8 hrs everyday and then I feel like I have to teach her when she gets home because she can't work on her on yet(she's 7).Basically she has from 4:30 -9:00 to do homework, eat supper, play, and take baths before bed. This is with our kids homeschooling,it feels so unfair but we can't change it right now.

Otherwise she and her brother(3) is doing pretty good with us.All the kids are starting to adjust .We enjoy having them,as we hardly ever seen them before they came to live with us.

Does anyone here have children that homeschool and other kids that have to do public ? How do you handle all of it?

I have one who is homeschooled and one who is in public school. Our public schooled child is in kindergarten. Evenings can be frustrating. He only gets one worksheet a week on Monday that is due on Friday so he can work it around our schedules. Our evenings are so packed. Basically we have from 3:30 til 7:30 to enjoy him until bedtime. Someday he'll home schooled again. He is in school because he has special ed needs that I as of yet am uneducated in handling. I'm taking this time while he is in kindergarten to get myself up to speed about his issues.I don't really have any advice just support.

Ok I must have missed something. Did you explain why you have extra kids living with you? Anyways,
due to this little community we live in and other factors I am doing both with my DD. I send her to public school and nights and weekends/vacations I home school her and reteach her alot of values and learning skills. I have always done this with both my children but the older one is so smart I do not have to help him much in the ways of homeowork but the values/manners ect things are a constant that I have to keep on him about as there are not such good influences in public schools. send me a message (pm) me if you want to talk or just get some stuff out of the way!

I have two homeschooled and one in public. The only trouble we have is the days(like today) when public is out my two don`t want to do school. But my oldest is also a senior. I homeschooled her for a while but then she went back to public her 6th gr. year. Hopefully everything will work out for you and everyone will adjust. Good luck! sheryl

The reasons you give about public school is why we started homeschooling. I couldn't understand what my children did all day at school and still had 3 hours of homework. We did so many research papers during the holidays. I don't think I would be able to have one in public school. I think you should re-think this. I am sure your other children are confused?

Blessings,

Ma
