Posted in Of the Spirit and the Word

Maria shared this over at W@H, and I had to steal it!!

THE TOP TEN PREDICTIONS FOR 2008

1. The Bible will still have all the answers.
2. Prayer will still work.
3. The Holy Spirit will still move.
4. God will still inhabit the praises of His people.
5. There will still be God-anointed preaching.
6. There will still be singing of praise to God.
7. God will still pour out blessings upon His people.
8. There will still be room at the Cross.
9. Jesus will still love you.
10. Jesus will still save the lost.

God whispers in your soul and speaks to your mind. Sometimes when you don't have time to listen,
He has to throw a brick at you.

It's your choice: Listen to the whisper, or wait for the brick.

Lent

Posted in Of the Spirit and the Word

Well, Lent begins on Wednesday.  The church I currently attend doesn't "do" Lent.  But, I'm still giving something up for it, and kind of observing it.

I'm giving up smoking.  Apprently it will be a day early, because I forgot to buy some when I was out earlier.
This time WILL be for really-real.

Lord willing

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. ~ Prov. 3:5&6

Oh, mercy.  I'm beginning to think the Lord is trying to get something across to me.  And I'm not gonna like this next round at all.

Yesterday I mentioned to my friend Jen that I would not be in church this coming Wednesday because my mom and I were going to go see Jason Aldean at our county fair.  I've been looking forward to this since I found out about it a couple months ago.  I had thought I wasn't going to be able to go, but my mom found out yesterday she doesn't have to work Wednesday, so plans are back on.

Jen asked who Jason Aldean is, and I told her he is a country singer.  She said she had stopped listening to country music about 5 years ago, because the Lord had convicted her of some of the lyrics.  I shared with her that I had had a similar experience with listening to rock music, but not with country yet.

I was raised on rock n' roll.  It was not unusual for Journey, Foreigner, Foghat, Frampton, Skynyrd or Molly Hatchet to be playing daily in my house when I was a child.  It was in the car (on 8 track!!!!!!).  It was a part of my life.  When my mom gave me a record player for Christmas one year, I claimed her Lynyrd Skynyrd Gold & Platinum record for my own and didn't give it back for about 10 years.  As I got older, I developed other tastes on my own, found my own bands I loved.  Skynyrd always remain at the top of the list, along with Def Leppard and Tesla, Skid Row.

Skynyrd is a Southern Rock band for those not in the know, lol.  They are often crossed over with country these days.  Last night they were on CMT.  We had watched The Dukes of Hazzard (flashback...25 years before, on Friday nights, I watched the same show with my grandparents...now, there I was last night, watching it with my own 3 kids).  And I was going to turn the tv to America's Funniest Home Video's.  But the announcer said "Up next, Summerfest: Lynyrd Skynyrd"

OH JOY!!!!

About 10 minutes into it, my ballon was deflated as my oldest son said to me..."Mom, they don't play very Christian music."    I said, "No, Brandon, I suppose they don't."  I was hoping he'd let it drop.  I have held Skynyrd near and dear in my heart for as long as I can remember...

"Well, we shouldn't be watching this, then."

OUCH!!!!!!!!!

I turned the channel.
