WE WON!!!!!!!!!
After falling just short of getting our midwivery bill passed this legeslative session, turns out that the Missouri Supreme Court just ruled in our favor to keep the law that was passed last year, legalizing midwifes in Missouri.
You can see the opinon and summary here  .
I'm dizzy with excitement and crying tears of joy!  This means I will probably be able to have a midwife this pregnancy and you don't know how much that means to me!!!  Well, some of you do... (Thanks for commenting, Sarajeen.)    I've been really chewing on this and praying about it...  I can't bring myself to get prenatal care with an OBGYN.  It's like signing up for stress.  I was thinking about calling all the OBGYNs withing 40 miles and ask how they felt about legalizing midwives...  If one were in support I would consider receiving care from him/her.  :)
Anyway, more later.  I'm late for morning chores.  All kinds of stuff going on....   I've butchered chickens, brought home a new goat, Bobby's working out of town, my kids bless me to no end... and today we're going to go talk to a guy about trading our van and some cash for his 15 passenger van - the same one we've been looking at.  He said no when we first asked but I've really been praying and believe we should try again, really make an appeal.  Say a prayer for us!

We had a midwife deliver Noah, but she is lisenced through the hospital. You deliver in the hospital, and she can order drugs (like an epi, or spinal), if you want .......which I DID NOT. The only thing she can not do it a c section. If something happens, you are in the hospital already.

Noah's birth was nice. I told her even if I begged profusely, to not give me any drugs. LOL She let me walk (other doctors wont), and I almost delivered in the birthing tub (which she told me no big deal, she would do)

She was so awesome and if we have another, we will definately go to her!!

I am glad you are going to be able to work with a midwife as well!!!

We live in Missouri as well. Where are you at?? We live about 100 miles NE of KC, MO!

God's Blessings,
Amy Jo

I had a midwife for my first two kids, up in Iowa. She was wonderful, but it was a situation kind of like gabbie427. I delivered at the hospital, but Dawn was there the whole time. The clinic had 7 midwives and 7 doctors- I only ever saw Dawn. My doctor here in MO is about as close to a midwife as you could get. He does or lets me do anything I ask (within reason, of course); our hospital is tiny, so there is no anesthesiologist which means no drugs. He keeps joking about how I'm just going to have the next one at home, and I'm not so sure he wouldn't be willing to make a home visit :) Do you have a midwife nearby picked out already? I'm not sure there are even any within 1 1/2 hours of us. By the way, congrats on your pregnancy. I forgot to say that in my previous note.

Thats wonderful news!! We've had our last 3 at home with our midwives and planing the same for out little one due this fall. Up here in Ontario midwives are license to work in the hospital or at home, it's up to the parents to decide were they want to have the baby in most cases.
