May's Block of the month

Posted in Quilting

As this is a beginners block of the Month I've turned the block around & renamed it from Brave World to Timid World. No doubt the turned around block has an actual name - but I couldn't find what it was when I looked in the book 5,500 Quilt Block Designs by Maggie Malone  Hence I've named it Timid World as for beginners to get their points matched can be a challenge & we have children making these blocks of the month. Hay if you learn the name of the block let me know - or you & your kids might think of a better name.

Background Fabric (Yellow) - cut 4 3 7/8 inch squares then cut in half .

Colour 2 fabric
(pink)- cut 4 31/2 inch squares.

Feature Fabric
(floral) - Cut 2 6 7/8 inch squares and cut in half.

This block of the month is made up of four squares.
Take two background fabric triangles(my yellow), one colour 2 fabric (my pink) square & 1 triangle of feature fabric (my floral).
And lay them as in photo (this is two squares)

Sew a background fabric to colour 2 fabric - note position and don't sew the longer part of triangle to colour 2.

Sew second background fabric
Sew feature fabric along long triangle side as in photo.

Sew another 3 blocks the same.

Then place the 4 blocks as per photos
For Brave World  Block- (NB you will have to insure you have spot on 1/4 inch seam allowances to get the center to meet.)
Or for an easier block - which I"ve named Timid World Block - this would probably be better for beginners esp the kids.

Your block should measure 12 1/2 inch.

Hi Leanne, After seeing your latest quilt block, I am so going to have an attempt at quilting. I have a friend that is addicted to patchworking. I have been visiting your site for a while now but have not left comment before. I love learning about how other people live their simple lives. Your site has plenty of information that is useful and I enjoy visiting often. Thankyou for visiting my blog and leaving comment. It's nice to know you were there. We are still in the learning phase with the solar power but if you want to ask anything we will try to give you an answer. I wish I had the confidence to homeschool my son, like many others seem to be doing. The public school system is terrible, not a great place for kids to be. Have a great day. Tania

I'm going to have to get busy. I have April's cut out but not sewn together. My daughter has her done. I just haven't had time to post it. Now I have May's to do. Thanks. Looks neat.

I think the best place to visit re home schooling is the five in a row boards. WWW.FIVEINAROW.COM

It is the BEST curriculum for young children & has wonderful support for mums - I wouldn't of been able to of done it without it.

A warm welcome to our families daily blog. "At The Good Life" blog I'll bring a little bit of our home to you, and introduce you to some of what living in New Zealand is and being a New Zealander is like.

I’m the luckiest girl I know! Married to my best friend for over 21 years, raising two wonderful children on our 3 acre farmlet in New Zealand.

I was a Bank Manager in previous life (before kids) and now a kept women - home schooling our two kids.

I enjoy writing & sharing views on living a simple life, menu planning, living on one income in a two income world, home schooling, dyslexia, severe food allergies, raising coloured sheep, goats & hens, quilting, reading, cooking, gardening and of course cats.
