Quilt Shopping

Posted in Quilting

Saturday I had a day off - Abbey did all the cats for me (Isn't she just the perfect kid!) - ow this is a big deal as usually I get dressed in old clothes every morning to do chores - so it was nice to dressed in good clothes.

Off I went to the quilt shops - GrandMother;s Garden quilt shop brought their van full of quilt things near me - so I went to see with some bucks in my hands - I am looking for navy & light blues only got two fat quarters there.

So I went to two local shops & one had a big sale - buy 10 fat quarters for $20.00 - here in NZ a fat quarter is $6.50. I really want to look into buying direct from USA but haven't worked out where from yet - if anyone knows of a good shop that sends to NZ I'd appreciate it.

I went & had lunch with my parents

And heres photo of my new stash - I know a scrap quilt is meant to be from scraps but I don't have a big stash of material I like to use what I buy.

As soon as I got home I got it washed.

I put warm water & a bit of dish washing liquid in sink - washing lights first then darks. If any colour comes out I re wash that material until I get clear water - if fabric really bleeds I would choose not to use it as then it would probably bleed when the finished quilt is washed & that would be heart breaking.
I rinse the material a couple of times with clean warm water until all the soap is out & water is clear.

You can see the eggs James has got from his hens on sink area
Then I hang it up to dry - I was soo impatient I wanted to cut then & there.

I'm just about to get off the computer & start ironing it all.
The I will cut it up into
3inch squares
3 3/8 inch squares
2 1/2 inch squares
and 1 1/2 inch strips.
There will be very little waste! - All this material is going into four quilts I have on the go.
