I have some real live friends who are going to have a go at making compost for their garden rather exciting I think. We use large plastic bins - cos well that's what we have & they work fine. But one day we would like a nice three bin open compost - they do take up more room which again is ok for us - but small gardens use the plastic bins they are fine.

To make compost - well how I make it & thankfully their is no 100% correct way - if you have been reading my blog you will of worked out I am not a rule follower....

Put in any thing you have - here I have ash from wood fire, clippings from Abbey's herb garden, kitchen scraps everything except onions. I put in citrus peel - green leafy scraps go to chooks. So for my compost I only have tea bags, egg shells, fruit skins. - But I can get some greens from grabbing a scrap bag from local shops - just ask for rabbit scraps & they willing give me boxes of scraps. I share them out with the animals & my compost - good fast way to get your compost bin going.
Grass clippings can be added - so can hair ask your hairdresser to keep a bag full.
Here i took the top layer of compost from my other bin - somehow my bin that was brewing got fed scraps. My helpers have been putting scraps in wrong bin. So I just shoveled it over to new brew.
rip up some strips of newspapers - I don't put the glossy shiny ones in just newspaper - rip away very soothing if you are grumpy, not that I was but mmm something I need to remember.
Some home grown sheep poop -

And another bucket - including horse mushrooms I found in paddock too - anything really can go in a compost - not human ,cat or dog waste nor meat or dairy. You can even buy horse or sheep poop from the side of the road - but local friends feel free to walk in the paddock - but keep an eye on & your backside away from Geraldine & Molly! (goose & goat).
Water your compost well - poke some holes down the side & center to let the water get in. Brent even turns it for me. Pop your lid on - Keep adding to it until near full. Don't forget ask at shops for their vege scraps.
After all the fun you will get
