Making Laundry soap, bloomers & kittens
Posted in Daily Life
A sunny winters day but a real nip in the air.
I needed to make more laundry soap. I felt like a little kid playing with water - I tend to make a mess Brent came to my rescue & fitted a bit on the end of my tap so I can now fill my bottles without it pouring out.

It really is the best thing making your own laundry soap & the savings is huge.
To make 20 litres.
Grate 2 bars of Sunlight soap
Boil this in 3 litres of water until disolved.
Add 1 cup borax (I got mine off trade me)
1 cup washing soda.
Then pour into 20 litre bucket & fill with warm water.

The two litters of kittens are 4 & 5 weeks old - 5 week olds are using litter tray yea!!! and eating solids. Their personalities are starting to come out - they are fun!

In the evenings I've been working away at my Country Bloomers Cross Stitch I love most patterns by

Neat pictures! I make homemade laundry soap too and love it! I have have never heard of a recipe using sunlight soap. I usually use Fels-Naptha.
The kittens are cute! Your cross-stitch project is very pretty!
Have a nice day!

What darling kitties. I also love the actual picture of New Zealand. Very clever.
My daughter was an exchange student to New Zealand 2 summers ago and just loved it. I hope to visit someday.

Hi Leeanne, the cross stitch is lovely! I have a question about the laundry soap...do you think it would work in my HE "high efficiency" machine?
blessings,

Hi
My machine is an industrial one - Maytag. It;'s over 8 years old & just goes n goes gets a real thrashing, from animal bedding, overalls to delicate smalls.
I have found the laundry soap really cleans the clothes I add extra for animal bedding & overalls. Grease stains on clothes I spot clean before I wash.
I also only use cold water.
The soap also doesn't cause any issues with James' excema.

Can I ask you a question about laundry soap? We have a new washing machine--one of those machines that takes the concentrated HE soap, I think Tide makes a brand and maybe a few others. Do you know if you make laundry soap if I would have to make a more concentrated version for my washing machine? I'd really like to try your recipe.

I was just browsing through some blogs and saw that you mentioned Jeremiah Junction. I clicked on the link to see what it was. I've lived in Quakertown for almost 10 years now and have driven by Jeremiah Junction many times and always wondered what it was. Now I know!!! Cute cross stitch!

If your new machine is under warranty & suggest a particular brand or type of soap - that is what I would use during warranty.
Otherwise - I'd use what ever soap I wanted & home made soap in my opinion is better because of price & less chemical stuff in it.
