Tuesday, March 11, 2008 - great visit with a special homesteading friend!

I love to go and visit with Jen Igarashi ... she is a really neat friend! We just sit and chat about life for a few hours every now and then, but those times are special. She gifted us with a dozen eggs that they collected while we were there and we also got to see their adorable pregnant goats. They will be getting goat milk again soon - yea! Jen has already started her seedlings for her garden, too. I had planned on having a garden this year, but I don't think it's going to happen. Luckily, Jen promised me she'd share any excess that she got from hers (I hope she gets lots and LOTS of squash and zucchini again this year!). While there, her daughter Emmiko baked a chocolate cake and made fresh chocolate icing and sent us away with some dessert to go with tonight's dinner. My son and Jen's boys played outside the entire time and my daughter and Ryann played card games while Jen and I talked. What a lovely afternoon ... I definitely need to go visit them more often!

Looks like my son will be having 4 bottom teeth pulled after school ends and then he'll have a spacer put on to keep the spaces open for the adult teeth to grow into. He's not thrilled, but I knew this was coming. Seems that the roots of his baby teeth are cemented to the jawbone and are not dissolving properly. We'll probably have to do the same thing with the top teeth at some point, too.

Walmart did not have my sewing machine, but I'll check 2 other Walmarts tomorrow since I drive by both of them to get to our standardized testing. Other than that, it's been a quiet day!

Whenever anyone in this family goes in to get teeth pulled, I make them eat pineapple or drink the juice.
It makes it so that you bleed less and heal faster.
Sorry, it doesn't seem to help with the pain.

You make it sound like so much fun. Can I come a long next time? Just me about a 7 hour head start, lol.

I am glad that you had a good visit. You are right, you should do this more often.

Love ya,
Pat

What kind of machine are you planning to buy from WalMart? You might want to check and be sure that it is a machine that repair shops will service. I have heard that some of the models that Wal Mart sells are hard to get worked on. Just thought that you should know.

... that he is not alone! Remind him that Aunt Niki had to have 12 baby teeth pulled for the same reason. I know he can get through it, he's a tough young man! HUGS to you, Ian! Love to you all in there, Niki (Aunt Niki)

Sounds like you had a wonderful time to relax and just "be" with Jen! I am glad you had a chance to do that...it is sweet, those moments just enjoying time together with another "girl".

:: Getting Healthy ::

I have been diagnosed with insulin resistance and PCOS. This makes it difficult to lose weight, but I am trying my best to get healthy again. I am back to walking and weight training, beginning in September. I hope to add in some yoga soon as well - I've never tried it, but have always wanted to! I am currently seeing a chiropractor and massage therapist regularly to try and get my back realigned properly again, too.

My current eating plan is focused on eating gluten-free foods "from the original garden." I believe that I have food sensitivities and am trying to figure out which items set off the symptoms (rash, upset stomach, etc.).

as of August 29, 2008.

:: My Faith ::

I attend a Lutheran church and am active in many ways. My husband and I lead the youth group. I am a member of the Fellowship & Recreation and the Mutual Ministries committees. My husband is president of the Admin Council and my daughter often participates as an acolyte or crucifier during the services.
