I have been diagnosed with insulin resistance and PCOS. This makes it difficult to lose weight, but I am
trying my best to get healthy again. Unfortunately, I am also gluten intolerant and have allergies to several
other foods - tomatoes and peppers. I hope that 2009 is FINALLY the year that I get healthy.
You can read my plans for healthier living in this post.
My eating plan will be from
The Insulin Resistance Diet book. It will include no added sugar and a focus on whole foods. I have a sugar addiction
so this will be tough at first! Other books that I will be following include
The 3-Hour Diet, the Superfoods books and
The 12 Best Foods Cookbook.
We are back from taking our church youth to a weekend retreat. All in all, things went fine. I’m not sure what happened, but my hip joints are INCREDIBLY sore. It hurts A LOT to walk. I didn’t do anything funny … they just started hurting yesterday afternoon. Needless to say, this is NOT the best week for this. I have a ton of cleaning to do before my MIL comes in Tuesday night as Thanksgiving is at our house this year. I’m hoping everything will be back to normal before then. I just wish that I knew what started this pain.
I had the time this weekend to finish Beautiful in God’s Eyes: The Treasures of the Proverbs 31 Woman. This book has really challenged me and changed how I look at my life as a homemaker and SAHM wife & mom. Now that I’ve read through it once, I’m going to begin reading it again using the Beautiful In God’s Eyes (Growth and Study Guide). I cannot wait to read it again! While I found that I perform well in some areas as Proverbs 31 woman, I need improvement in other areas.
During one of the group exercises at the youth retreat, there was a call to pray in one or more of the four corners of the room - Forgiveness, Peace, Healing and Commitment. Before they even started talking about the corners, I was drawn to the word “Commitment” … see, I can commit to things outside of myself - I can take on leading the youth or the 4-H group, I can bake food for people in need, I will almost always help in a situation if asked. However, I TOTALLY lack any commitment to things that involve me ministering to myself. For example, I say that I’m going to exercise and eat better and then I don’t. I say that I’m going to study my Bible daily and then I don’t … when it comes to committing myself to things that will make me a better person, I often lack any commitment at all. I’m not sure what the issue is, but I came home tonight ready to work on these issues. I created a schedule for myself to try and follow each week and will begin implementing it tomorrow. I’ll be thrown off a little due to the holiday, but that’s ok as I often do better when I ease into a new routine. I’ll share my schedule once I can see what works for me.
So, my big challenge right now is to get myself committed to those things that will make me healthier, calmer, and less stressed. I’ll let you know how it’s going in another week or so! I’m not sure when I’ll be blogging this week. I actually enjoyed being away from the computer for almost 48 hours … I didn’t even think about it while we were away! I have been praying to break the ties with the internet for a LONG time now and I think that God is answering my prayers!
I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, mom to two wonderful kids, a Christian and I work from home part-time for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. Please join me here "at home with Kris."
5:30am - up and exercise 6:00am - get kids up 7:30am - kids to school 8-9am - errands/homekeeping 9-Noon - work Noon - Lunch/homekeeping 1-2:30pm - finish up work, if needed
The afternoons vary depending upon our evening schedules, but they are generally spent helping the kids with their homework, exercising several afternoons a week,
getting dinner ready, homekeeping, etc.
6pm - dinner & clean kitchen 7pm - final email check for work
The rest of the evening is spent straightening the house for the next day, finishing up homework with the kids, and relaxing by the TV or with a good book!
I need to make some time for my hobbies, but I'm really enjoying reading books right now!
Housekeeping :: Schedule::
I use the Motivated Moms Planner for my
daily schedule. My children have weekend chores which really helps me a LOT! I do laundry as it fills the sorter and straighten the house every morning
and evening.
:: Exercise Plan ::
My basic plan is 30 minutes of cardio daily and strength training 4 days weekly. I also hope to do yoga 1-2 times weekly.
