I have been diagnosed with insulin resistance and PCOS. This makes it difficult to lose weight, but I am
trying my best to get healthy again. Unfortunately, I am also gluten intolerant and have allergies to several
other foods - tomatoes and peppers. I hope that 2009 is FINALLY the year that I get healthy.
You can read my plans for healthier living in this post.
My eating plan will be from
The Insulin Resistance Diet book. It will include no added sugar and a focus on whole foods. I have a sugar addiction
so this will be tough at first! Other books that I will be following include
The 3-Hour Diet, the Superfoods books and
The 12 Best Foods Cookbook.
Starting weight: 1/4/09 - 161.6 lbs.

... Saving $$ is one of my jobs ...
…. originally posted on my other blog in October ‘06 …
Yesterday, I posted how, so far this month, I have brought $150+ worth of free items into my home PLUS I listed other savings that I have taken advantage of so far. Jessica left the following comment: “Boy, that almost seems like a job! How do you keep up with all this?”
Well, the short answer (because I only have a few moments this morning to pop on and check email!) is that I consider saving money to be one of my most important jobs in my home. It’s definitely up there in the Top 5 focuses each week. I look at it this way, if I spend 30-60 minutes each week planning my shopping lists and cutting coupons and such and then I save $50-100 (which is very normal for me), then my hourly pay has just become $50-200/HOUR!! There is NO job in the world outside my home that is going to earn me that much money. I do not count the time it takes me to do this shopping because I’d be shopping anyway each week to provide the food and such needed for my family. However, if I did count the time, my hourly pay would only drop by half and $25-100/hour is still nothing I could earn outside the home.
I also make NO special trips to save this money. I am already in town 2-4 days weekly and all of the stores are right there together on one strip of road. I pass ALL of them as I travel back and forth to my home, so there is no extra expenditure of my time.
Well, that’s the short answer … I have been doing this for almost 13 years since the day we brought my daughter home from the hospital and I became a SAHM, so it’s just 2nd nature to me now. It does take time to save $$, but not as much time that it would take away from my husband -AND- our family if he had to get a 2nd job to pay for these items if I wasn’t willing to work to buy them at rock bottom prices or get them for FREE or nearly free!
I am happily married to my high school sweetheart, mom to two wonderful kids, a Christian and I work from home part-time for The Old Schoolhouse Magazine. Please join me here "at home with Kris."
5:30am - up and exercise 6:00am - get kids up 7:30am - kids to school 8-9am - errands/homekeeping 9-Noon - work Noon - Lunch/homekeeping 1-2:30pm - finish up work, if needed
The afternoons vary depending upon our evening schedules, but they are generally spent helping the kids with their homework, exercising several afternoons a week,
getting dinner ready, homekeeping, etc.
6pm - dinner & clean kitchen 7pm - final email check for work
The rest of the evening is spent straightening the house for the next day, finishing up homework with the kids, and relaxing by the TV or with a good book!
I need to make some time for my hobbies, but I'm really enjoying reading books right now!
Housekeeping :: Schedule::
I use the Motivated Moms Planner for my
daily schedule. My children have weekend chores which really helps me a LOT! I do laundry as it fills the sorter and straighten the house every morning
and evening.
:: Exercise Plan ::
My basic plan is 30 minutes of cardio daily and strength training 4 days weekly. I also hope to do yoga 1-2 times weekly.
... Our Garden ...
Below is a list of books that I will be using to plan our garden for this spring and also using
