Restoring Lives in Louisiana
|
Just finished reading Louisana NOW. The United methodist church newsletter that I receive from Baton Rouge. It was nice to read about things still going on in New Orleans, survivors receiving help, rebuilding homes and lives, t-shirt sales support storm recovery, a dvd the will keep the story alive, Katrina Church Recovery Appeal, and free grief workshop that helps survivors. Oh it is still so heartrenching. We were in Baton Rouge of the time of Katrina and Rita. We have never been so scared in our whole lives watching as Katrina moved in hour by hour. We fled on a early Sunday morning but came back just in time for Rita to show her ugly face. We were on the nasty side of her. Winds outside never sounded so spooking in the quiet subdivistion we lived in. My seven year old still gets nervous if some one meantions Katrina. (he was 6 at the time when it happen and has not forgotten it) Even though the anniversay has slipped by, it still tears me up to see people hurting. I could not image losing everything. But when we still lived there someone that visited my little church from New Orleans had. She looked so broken but remained cheerful. My heart went out to her many times. But now I can happly report the last time I had checked in on her she was quite settled in Baton Rouge and loved it. And oh yeah, Baton Rouge has grown too. Traffic was worst after we left. So many people poured in. Baton Rouge had a hard time keep up with extra kids in the schools, people trying to get jobs just to stay there, shelters overflowing, etc. Not to mention Houston. Anyway, if you want to help. I have a website and an email for those who would like to send a note or a donation. stormrelief@bellsouth.net www.laumcstormrelief.com The United Methodist Church 141 N. 6th Street Baton Rouge, La 70802 225-346-5193 Have a wonderful weekend.... ![]() |
