My quirky quirks
Posted By
PrairieMouse's House
I've Been Tagged!
OK, here's the new game for all us bloggers. First, someone tags you, then you follow these rules:
- Link to the person who tagged you.
- Post the rules on your blog.
- List 6 unspectacular quirks you have.
- Tag 6 bloggers by linking to them.
- Leave a comment on each taggee's blog to let them know they were tagged.
Thank you Laurie for the tag! Well I don't dare ask my children if I am quirky cause they would never tell me in fear of hurting my feelings. Sooo I am going to list the ones I KNOW I have and then have the children read it and comment with thier own idea's of my quirks. Be nice kids, I will be watching you!
Well, here are what I think are my quirks!
1) I stay up at least twice a week until 4 am or get up at 4 am so that I can have time to myself for at least 4 hours before anyone else is awake.
2) I love MICE, all kinds of mice, don't get me wrong I don't like when they invade my kitchen (although I have never had that problem before, I guess cause they know I like them but my cats don't). I am not talking the Mickey mouse type of mouse I like the cute cuddly mice and realistic mice. My family thinks that is weird but hey,. everyone is weird in one way or another.
3) AT 44 yrs old I like to draw and color and paint little kid things. Some say it's my artistic talent and some say I am quirky.
4) My house can be a wreck but if my bed is not made it drives me NUTS!!!
5) I like to drink milk with ice.
6) I can EAT 12 thirty two ounce glasses of ice a day, nothing added, just the ice!
So what are your quirks? Now I am supposed to tag six other people so here it goes....
I am tagging....
Kim over at A place to call Home
Kathy at Aunt Kathy's Home
Stitchinchick at SimpleFolk
HisIrishGem at Abundant Harvest Homestead
Julie at Hatfield House
Chas at Heritage Acres Farm
Well that's it folks I can't wait to see how quirky my friends are!

where to start-part one
Start at the basics. Evaluate your current financial situation. List your debts-list your assets. If you have debt what can you do about it? Talk to your family. The number one thing I could recomend to anyone is have your housing situation covered. Are you living in an area that promotes the kind of independent life style you seek? Ideally your looking at a rural location-someplace out of town with some kind of land to use. Keep it simple-this probably won't be what you would like to have but is workable. This is no easy task. Trust me I remember all too well that moment. It seemed impossible to me. But - It's not. There is tons of reasons you can think about "How this won't work." I know I thought about them all. It's tough. But the truth is It can work. So do your best to keep the emotions in check and figure out exactly what and how you can do it. Write it all down. Any ideas or possibilities at this point could be an option. Remember this is all just on paper at this point--your not making final decisions....your evaluating your options. Ask yourself what is the bare minimum I would have to have to sustain my family. How can this work attitude! Keep in mind your not building your dream house and dream life (that will come later-LOL)---your evaluating your options--be real. It is possible.

Preparing for a depression?
| There is alot of media news out there right now talking about recession/depression and what you should do to prepare for such an event. Most of the articles I have read go over the basics of what to do with your money. Get out of debt-stay out of debt-live below your means-have affordable housing, ect. These things are all true but honestly they are things that we already know and should be doing to the best of our ability. Debt is bad...period...we know that--Although I'm not so sure the government does-LOL. The fact is when this country does see a true depression there will be many other things that you will need to have 'prepared' for. I could be wrong-I have been before-lol--but I think we are already knee deep into the start of this thing and with the decisions that are being made now I don't see things getting better. First thing you need to do is pray about it--find peace-not fear-get out of the media hype. How are things in your life being affected now? Many-many Americans are already facing job losses and financial crisis. If you are still in a good position financially you have either prepared or are in a great position to prepare. Don't kid yourself though--ask yourself what position would I be in if I no longer had income or if I had 1/2 the income I do now. What position would I be in then? Don't panic, just be realistic. Write these things down. There is going to be alot to think about. Perhaps you won't have to live through these types of scenario's but it is better to have planned for them now instead of in a time of stress and necessity. I think most people have put some thought into this but haven't seriously put pen to paper. So where do you start? This is a personal thing---do what you feel is right-and keep your peace about it. I'd like to share some thoughts on things you should think about so as time allows I'll try and make blog entries that you might find helpful on your way to a more independent lifestyle. This may be easier for some than others but regardless of your current situation it is possible. It's just depends on how much you want it. Blessings>faithfarm |

Tired of the liberal biased media?
Anyone out there in blogland weary of the liberal biased media?
If so, please leave a comment..........I have been trying to keep up on election news, only to become sick to my stomach whenever I read what is in the print media. :(
It is SO obvious the liberal media machine have picked their "star boy" for this coming election. He can do no wrong in their eyes. It is obvious they are out to "eat alive" those that even slightly ruffle their feathers.
It makes me sick and I hope Americans are seeing the media for what they are -- socialists who are despereately trying to "shape" American's thinking......... do they really think they can dictate to us what we should think and believe???
I am sick and tired of the oh so obvious partiality and bias...... this is not journalism......good grief.
I for one am not going to allow the socialist liberal media machine dictate to me what I should think about this coming election and "who" I should vote for.
I hope & pray you will do the same!

October and a great recipe!
Good Morning All! I just love Fall and I really enjoy October. Cool nights and warm sunny days-what could be better? The new hens have started laying and breeding season has begun. The rabbits should be in full production by the end of the month and the HE-Goat is visiting the does in the pasture. I tried to do selected breeding to have some kind of order to kidding season but that just didn't work out so now the timing is all up to them. Kidding season is always fun anyway--why try to fight it-lol.
A friend gave me a recipe this week and I thought it was wonderful! Just in time for fall. You should try it-It is so easy and so good!
Caramel Dip
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar (we like dark brown sugar best!)
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside My Window…well since I am writing in the evening this time there is total darkness outside my window right now. I can't even see the moon.
I am thinking…about my parents and wishing I could share my thoughts and feelings with them right now. I am going through some things with the homeschool group I was a part of, stress here at home, the pain of being so far away from my son and his wife and well, just life's things. I am sure many of you know where I am at.
I am thankful for…the Lord whom I can lean on in my times of trouble and pain.
From the kitchen…I can smell the herbal tea that I am about to consume to help rid myself of this horrible headache!
I am wearing…a black t-shirt with wild horses running across the front, red socks, and my black capri's. Gee seems a bit .... dark :-(
I am creating… a set of post cards and a set of notecards that will be packaged to sell at the visitors center.
I am going…nowhere else today. I did my grocery shopping and ran my errands for the day. Tomorrow I might go out and enjoy a day of painting in the park... not sure on that yet though.
I am reading…The old schoolhouse magazine and "Sketching Outdoors in Summer by. Jim Arnosky
I am hoping…that things will calm down around here and we can get on with planning fun activities just as a family!
I am hearing…The loud sounds of my dear husbands music as he watches one of his favorite bands on TV! Sorry honey I must be getting old but ARGH it is loud. hehehe
Around the house…the children are preparing for bed and checking to see what is on the agenda for tomorrow.
One of my favorite things…Cute MICE, Cuddly Mice, brown mice, white mice, and umm did I say Mice!! :-)
A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Preparing the October calendar for school, fun activities, doctor appointments and whatever has been planned. Finishing up some artsy swaps I am in and starting the final draft of my new book.
Here is picture thought I am sharing....

praying that my lil man is safe in the love of God's Hands |

It's that time of year again...
It's that time of year again..... my favorite time of year...... when the air is crisp, and the sun is not as intense..... the leaves are beginning to change, and yes autum has truly arrived in her beauty and regalia!
We have been busy around the homestead..... there has been little time for blogging....I've been spending a lot of time in my farmhous kitchen.... putting up pears and applesauce and making all kinds of wonderful goodies for my family to enjoy. Apple pies are in the oven as I type filling the air with it's cinnamon fruity scent.......
Oh how I love fall! Since we have had so much moisture this past summer, our colors are going to be vibrant this year! The big maple tree in the front yard has begun to turn color and I love the orange..... soon it will be a lovely shade of red.......
We have also been enjoying nature walks and hikes this past week....... collecting leaves to make collages..........the children are busy collecting our walnuts too.
One of my favorite things about fall is it's finally cool enough to put a good pot of soup on....... although the weather has been in the low 70's......it's a far cry cooler than the summer heat and the humidity is way down. PTL!
The girls and I have been busy as beavers today ~~ we cleaned the house, did some laundry and then headed into the kitchen. So far we have put a huge pot of italian sausage and lentil soup on, 4 loaves of honey wheat bread, and 2 fresh apple pies. I want to get some granola made too.
Dru is busy in the dining room ~~ repairing walls...... this is very exciting because this is our last room in the house that needs to be redone!! PTL! It's been 2 yrs this coming november since we moved to the farmhouse, and it's been a long process of restoring, remodeling, adding rooms, etc. We are hoping everything will be completed just in time for the holiday season this year!! I am looking forward to the decorating and baking. :) Finally ..... a finished house!!!
Lest you think we won't have anything else to keep us busy, we still have a bonus room above the garage to finish and a large chicken coop we want to repair and clean up . There is always something to do around here.......
Ahh...... fall...... I hope you are enjoying the beautiful world the good Lord created for us..... aren't you glad for seasons? The change of seasons is always met with anticipation and joy......
I hope you aren't all too busy that you don't have time to take a stroll down the lane or go and collect leaves....... it's such a beautiful time of year..... don't forget to revel in the simple pleasures......
I know we are.
May you be blessed!

cool hand tool!
| I am always looking for non-electric tools or kitchen helpers that can make my life easier and save time. Well I found a good one. Not to sound like one of those info-commercials with the latest and greatest but this thing really works. It's the original veg-o-matic. I don't know about the updated version veg-o-matic 2--I find it hard to believe that it could work any better than the first. This lil gaget was invented sometime in the 60's-I think. I found one at a yard sale for $2 and decided to give it a whirl. It cuts through potatoes like you can't believe. Talk about making short work of potato prep time. It really does work well. I know around here space is valuable so I try not to gather things that are just going to take up space but this little thing deserves a spot. So friends-hit the garage sales-find one of these little jewels-It's worth it. I only wish I would have had it during canning season! Blessings>faithfarm |

It's been a long time
Posted By
PrairieMouse's House
Gee it feel like forever since I have been here. I really miss blogging so decided to take some time today to update everyone. We have been busy with schooling and 4H and horse competitions and I just can't wait to share all of it with you all.
First of all I want to share pictures from a beautiful Garden I went to. We took the children so that they can draw the flowers that were in bloom and then learn to watercolor them and photograph them. We are going to display their art at the local library next weekend. Here are the photo's I took and I will share the children's work later next week.
I just love the way Joe and Ruth have this garden set up. There are different sections for everything. I wish I could remember the names of all the flowers they are so beautiful. I am going to take my printed pictures back to Ruth and ask her to tell me what they are and then I am going to write the names on the back so that when I put them in my art journal I will remember what they are.
It was a wonderful day at the Gardens, we took a small tour and then sat to eat our lunch, then the children set out to draw their favorite flowers. When everyone was done, I helped them with the colors and the paint strokes to get the look they wanted. It was good for me as well as the children. I am really trying to get the hang of mingeling my colors and making the object look as realistic as possible.
Aren't the flowers just beautiful!
Stop back by soon, I will have the pictures from the horse competition up in no time. |
