" Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth."      ~ Psalm 46:10 ~

                    ______________________________________

I awoke this beautiful morning with this passage of scripture on my heart.......

One of the most challenging things for me to do is to "be still".....it actually requires this mama of 10 to really have to "work at" being still......it takes a purposed effort for me to "be still and know that God is at work"..... you see I am a "doer" by nature and I love to do do do......that can be a good thing at times..... and not a good things at other times....

God is showing me that right now, for today I need to be "still".......

Would you please pray for me today my friends? I come to you for your prayers of faith that I will be "still and know that GOD , is in charge and that He WILL be exalted before those who do not know Him".......

This is something God has laid in my heart today.... to be still and oh if you only knew how hard that can be for me at times!

Thank you dear friends for taking a moment to pray for me today.

He is faithful,

~ gloria ~

Well today is a wonderful day!  I guess LOL  At least I have another day!  The kids are being ornery (well Rach & Ethan) and Issac is still a little sickly.  Lucas is being his sweet self

I ordered some new kniting needles and sock yarn last week...I'm going to knit children's socks to sell.  I'm trying to knit some "testing" socks for mamas to try out on a diapering/parenting forum that I frequent. I'm so excited about this new venture!  Finding the actual time to knit though can prove interesting.  I'll hafta hide all my stuff and install a wireless security system to keep everything safe away from Ethan...my nosy little goober.  I have several different sock yarn colors so I can make for boys and girls...I only have like 2 pairs for newborns made right now, but I'm hoping to get my stock nicely built up soon!

 Well better get going!

Blessings,

Coyotes, Deer and A Play

Wow! It's a COLD morning here in NC. The frost on the ground looks like snow. I sure wish it was snow. I envy all of your blogs that post all those pretty snow pictures. We just don't get snow around my neck of the woods very often. In fact, the last good snow we got was in 89'.

The snow we got in 89' was the most snow I have ever seen around here. We were living at the beach at the time and received 12 inches of snow. It was enough to build a snowman (about 2ft. high) on the beach. It was such a sight to see. The snow even stayed around for more than a day. If I recall right, it was on the ground for at least 2-3 days. That's very unusual for our neck of the woods.

Anyway, one of our chickens has disappeared. We fear she was eaten by a predator. There has been no sign of her for almost a week now. She was an old bird and had to be kept away from the others (the heathens that is.) They would peck her constantly and pluck every feather she had right out of her. She ended up being a "loner" so to speak just to keep her alive.

Another interesting thing happened a few weeks ago that I couldn't believe. We were on our way to evening service at church. While looking on the side of the road, I noticed what looked to be a coyote. Hubby saw it too. I didn't even know we had coyotes in our area. Then I get an e-mail from a church friend today. He was out deer hunting and ended up shooting 2 coyotes. Like I stated before, I had no idea our area had coyotes.

There have also been a lot of deer hanging around the area lately. ago. I heard the dogs going crazy one night recently and got up to see what the fuss was about. Dd (15) said she heard someone running around the house. The "someone" turned out to be a lot of deer. There were tracks all over the yard the next day. If Hubby  were a hunter, he would not have had far to go to get some venison.

Well, today's blog was just a hodge podge of daily happenings around the homestead lately. We are curently getting ready to go on a field trip with some other homeschoolers. We are going to see a play.

Need to get going! Have a bessed day in The Lord!

Deliverance or determination?

" We often pray to be delivered from afflictions and even trust God that we will be.  But we do not pray for Him to make us what we should be while in the midst of the afflictions. Nor do we pray that we would be able to live within them, for however long they may last, in the complete awareness that we are held and sheltered by the Lord and can therefore continue within them without suffering any harm.

The Savior endured an especially difficult test in the wilderness while in the presense of Satan for forty days and nights. His human nature weakened by the need for food and rest. The three Hebrew young men were kept for a time in the flames of  "the furnace heated seven times hotter than usual" ( Dan 3:19).  In spite of being forced to endure the tyrant's last method of torture, they remained calm and composed as they waited for their time of deliverance to come. And after surviving an entire night sitting among the lions, "when Daniel was lifted from the dent, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God."  ( Daniel 6:23).

They were able to endure the presense of their enemies because they dwelt in the presense of their God. "

My BFF friend has finally joined us here!!!  She has been here vicariously for a few years, but has never had a fast enough internet connection to join herself.
Let me tell you about Harmony - she married one one of my best friends from high school, and I have totally forgotten that former best friend in her favor.  hehehe.  She is a true kindred spirit  - she was with me when we made soap for the first time, and she is game for lots of homestead-y activities.  Such as this week, she is here teaching me how to bottle beans.
She was homeschooled, and is one of the most outgoing and social people I have ever met.  She is an anti-testament to the homeschool-kids-are-unsocialized myth.  She has never met a stranger, and has a special knack for making people feel comfortable.  She is laughing at me right now.

So, please go visit Harmony and welcome her here!!!! pretty please!!!!!

Free Stocking Filler for my Daughter

In my attempts to create a homemade Christmas I went looking on the internet for ideas.

Imagine how thrilled I was to discover these two websites with absolutely wonderful old-fashioned paper dolls! Paper Dolls do seem to be back in fashion here among the little girls of New Zealand at the moment. And I know my 7 year old daughter Meredith will get so much pleasure out of these. They are free to print. The first website is for Betsy and Barbara and their clothes. I'm sorry for the funny-coloured photo. I had to take the pictures clandestinely while my inquisitive daughter was hanging around.

And the following website was my favourite find. It is the Betsy McCall pages. I am especially thrilled with this. They follow Betsy from around 1950 through to the new millenium. Here is one of the first pages from the 1950's Betsy McCall.

They include little stories about Betsy and her family and her outings. Betsy goes to a wedding, Betsy goes on a picnic, Betsy goes to the Beach etc, etc and they all have the appropriate clothing. They're so cute! And I hope to combine all these into a bound little book (costs $4 at the stationary store to have done), and in a little plastic sleeve inside the cover put the Betsy and Barbara dolls from the first link. I can't wait for Meredith to open it up. I know she's going to love it!

Chicken Update

Sadly, we have gotten rid of our former rooster, Doe. The reason was because he was being too aggresive. He was the only rooster in our coop and he thought he was the king. He  also crowed to much. We live in a small city so we have noise oridnances. He would crow at like one o' clock in the morning.
Doe went to live with Southern Blessings because she live in the country and has other roosters. Doe actually got picked on as soon as he got there. While my mom was there, she and Southern Blessings decided to go to a livestock auction. Southern Blessings got 4 pullets, and we got one. All the pullets are light brahams. The breed originated in China. Now we have a French hen and  a Chinese hen in our flock. We named our newest hen Chickety China the Chinese Chicken. But we call her China for short.

Isn't she the cutest little thing? Eveytime we go in there we cuddle her. Here she is resting on my oldest brother's shoulder. He didn't put her there. He was just sitting in that position near the nesting boxes on which China was standing and she flew on him.
