A Quiet Little Woman

Homemade Hair gel

01:14, Friday, January 18, 2008 .. Posted in The homestead kitchen .. 8 comments .. Link

I've been browsing the posts over at Biblical Womanhood's Frugal Friday and I thought that I would share with y'all a recipe that I came across for homemade hair gel.  It's made out of flax seed and sometimes a little gooy, but what storebought gel isn't gooy/goopy!?

Flax Seed Hair Gel

2 TBL. flax seeds

1 c. water

Optional: a few drops of your favorite essential oil

Place flax seeds and water in a saucepan.  Bring to a boil and remove from heat.  Let stand for 15-20 minutes.  Strain (I usually do it through a washcloth since the seeds are so tiny).  Allow to cool completely.  Add essential oil, if desired, to give the gel a nice smell.  Store in a bottle/jar and ENJOY!

I have REALLY curly hair and lately I've been having a problem with it being more frizzy then curly... BUT since I've been using this gel I've had the most beautiful hair!  I don't ever remember it being this curly!  One of my sisters keeps coming up to me and saying that she can't believe my hair, it looks like I got a perm!!  Well, enjoy this frugal tip and have a most wonderful winter day!!

This looks like a great, simple recipe to give my daughter who has lots of curls like her dad, not me. Thanks. Jill

Alex,
Thanks for stopping by my blog today and stopping by my web site. I appreciate all the kind words you said about my kitchen. It is a place we do enjoy spending time. I'm embarrassed to say but my new stove was over $3000. Like I said in one of my post though, it is an investment and sense it serves as our furnace I didn't think it was that bad. I love all your pictures of women in dress and long hair on your site. We believe in Deuteronomy 22:5 and
I Corinthians 11:1-16 so it does my heart good to see such pictures. I am also very impressed by your stand in not dating. We have raised our boys to wait upon the Lord for their life mate and when the time comes to follow the guide lines of courtship and not dating. We have prayed and continue to pray the Lord is rearing up young Godly like minded ladies just for them and rearing our boys up in return for the young ladies.
If you don't care I will put you on my friends list.
God's blessing to you.
Lea

great tip!

Alex,

Thanks so much for stopping by again today. Its such a pleasure to read your kind comments.
I am so impressed with you and your stand on Deuteronomy 22:5. We come from a church that teaches that as a fundamental belief and so many ladies, young and old alike, have a hard time submitting to it even though they know what the Word says. I think its great that you are willing to submit yourself. Do you mind me asking what experience you were referring to that led you to take a stand? I do understand that is personal and if you don't want to share that, it is okay.

Reading your blog also renews my spirit to know that God is rearing Godly young women in this day and age. There is so much worldliness imbedded in our youth that its frightening so to read a blog such as your is refreshing.

Yes, we do have electricity. We have in the past all but done without it, only to pump our electric water pump but I do find I use more as of late than ever before. We also have a propane stove that I use mainly in hotter weather and for canning.

That was a Country Living Grain Mill that my son was using to grind the wheat. It can be hooked up to a motor, or hooked up to a stationary bike or like we use, just by hand. It also has augers to grind corn and beans. We bought ours several years ago but I was just on their web site a couple weeks ago looking for replacement augers so I know they still sell that grinder. It makes wonderful flour.

I do look forward to visiting with you more.
May God bless you and your family.
Lea

Thanks
