A Quiet Little Woman

Fall Harvesting

Sorry I haven't been on in awhile, but I've been busy, busy with harvesting!  We have three gardens spread over the area and this year we just took over an about 100 tree apple orchard!!  I always think... "If it isn't God's will for us to have more than our 1/3 acre, then he sure is showing us how much he loves us by giving us land all over the place!"  Yesterday I picked apples from around 10-6 and I'm SORE!!!  We take care of the orchard with two other families and yesterday we picked 175 boxes!  We picked the golden delicious and the empires (if you haven't had a empire you are truly missing out!) yesterday and the mac's about a week ago and we have yet to pick the reds.  We are learning so much... this spring we pruned almost all the trees and now we are learning about  when to pick and what to watch for in different areas.  IF I can't be a homesteader with 100 acres at least I can be a girl with a pioneering and homesteading spirit!!  I am trying to learn all that I can and am hoping that SOMEDAY Heavenly Father will choose to bless me with more land... BUT if not, then I'll be content with our 1/3 acre and everything else that God has blesses us with!!!!  Have a wonderful day preserving and harvesting tomorrow!!

Alex

p.s oh, I forgot to tell you the miracle of yesterday!!  One of ladies that does the orchard with us has a brother that is (I think) 24 who helped us all day yesterday... he is on the university football team and amazingly strong which was SO helpful as we womenfolk got a little tired of lifting boxes!!   Anyways, he had several friends that came and helped during the day and then about 4 p.m. there were only a few people picking and it was starting to get cold, windy and threating to rain!  We only had 2 trees left and we needed to get done before an upcoming storm this week so we absolutely had to FINISH!!  All the little children were starting to get a little whiny and then WHO should drive up but 3 strong young men who we fondly refer to as "angels"!!!  We got the trees done in record time and their cheerful and slightly 'goofy' attitudes made the last picking really light hearted!!  As soon as we got finished picking and loading it started to rain!!  GOD TRULY IS GOOD TO THOSE WHO TRUST IN HIM AND THOSE WHO HAVE FAITH IN HIM!!!!

Alex,

You have been so busy!!!! I admire your pioneering spirit and your content attitude! That will help you immensely in life!

The Lord has blessed your family this year -- especially since you all long to have a piece of the country ~ it does appear as if Father in Heaven is taking care of your needs as well as that "want wish" by blessing you with this orchard you have adopted and more land to borrow for a bigger garden! Isn't He so good????

We too have been blessed ~ last night we went out to a lovely orchard about 1 hour or so north from us, close to the Iowa border and purchased apples...... this farm is amazing!! Almost 2000 trees! Can you believe that??? The family is in our stake and is a homeschooling family that moved to the area a few years back...... they have a lovely old victorian cottage they live in and this amazing farm with all these beautiful trees! I can only imagine what it's like in the spring time when the apple trees blossom!

I look forward to seeing you and your precious family this weekend!

Love,
Sister P
