I wanted to post some fun pictures of what we have been up to the last few days.
Wesley decided to make a kite the other day. Here is Wesley and Meghan trying to get it to fly on a not so windy day.

They had fun, but it wore them out all the running that it took to keep it in the air. I told the kids that we would try to invest in a kite before the summer is over.
Here is a picture of the butter I made on Friday. I added a bit of cane juice crystals to it and it turned out to be great! You cant really taste the cane juice crystals, but it does make it a tad bit more flavorful.
I ended up with about a cup of butter

And, here is a current picture of the chicken coop. As you can tell, not much has been done, but it is coming along.

Today we finally have some rain. I was wondering if we were going to have a spring with all snow and no rain, but it is coming along now. I am really trying to get some over due scheduling done. First on my list is coming up with a new menu for the spring and summer months. I need about 25 meals. I think I have about 14 meals. It has been difficult to find recipes that are lighter but still use that same ingredients that we normally use, so I don't have to spend extra money on food items. My dear hubby says, "just bbq every meal!" Yes. We will use the grill a lot, but I would like to have some other things lined up too.
Not much else is going on around here right now. We are staying on task with school now so that we WILL be done the third week of June. The kids (and mom) are ready for a break from the normal school routine. We will still do "school" but different for summer. I want to re read "Pocket full of pinecones" and get refreshed on nature journals. I would like the kids to do that this summer. I think we will do a history study of pioneer days and do some hands on things that will teach us about the ways of life back then. Making cheese, soap, candles, canning, all of that would fit in just perfect! This is just what is in my head for now. It is all in the planing stages.
Have a blessed day!

The butter looks fabulous! How did you do it? We've made butter before by the "shaking" method...do you use a churn or what's your way?? We'll be making butter soon in our Living History program we'll be in this summer so would love to know another way to do this! We're studying Colonial History--sounds like we've both planned our summer in a similar way :)
blessings!
