What does your offering cost you?

The kids and I were doing our bible lesson  this morning when I came across something that the Lord really spoke to me about.  We are reading in 2 Samuel in ch 24. It is when David had a census done, and then had to repent because of it. It goes through his request for forgiveness, and his punishment. The part that really struck me was when he was requesting to purchase a threshing floor from a man so that he could build an alter to the lord and offer a sacrifice.  The man told David that he was their king, so David could just have the land, oxen and wood. This was Davids reply, and the part that struck me.  vs24 "Then the king said to Araunah, 'No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing.' "

That really hit me. I will not offer to God that which costs me nothing. How often are we guilty of offering to God that which really doesnt cost us. Does it really cost us to go to church, to read our bible, to go to biblestudy, to ..... you name it. What we give to God as our offering should be that which costs us something. When we give of ourself, do we give what is easy, or is it hard for us. Does it cost us to let go of selfish ambition? Yes it does, but how often do we give that? It is easier to give a portion of money, or teach a class.  Are we cheating God by giving Him what is easy?

I dont know if I said this the way I wanted, to get my point across, but read it for yourself. 2 Samuel 24:10-25  Be willing to hear God speak to your heart about what you choose to offer to Him in all areas of your life.

This is a wonderful post! What a great exhortation and encouragement to us all. Your words have definitely caused me to think about this and take a second look at my "offerings" to God.

And yes, it's a beautiful and revealing part of the story in Samuel to show us just how much David desired to be devoted to God.

Thank you for posting. God bless you. :)

Alie

Your post touched my heart...... so often we "think" we are giving to the Lord -- offering HIm our all..... but is it really a sacrifice if it doesn't cost us any pain growth or stretching...... I try to remind myself that thru the trials He sends my way to help me and humble me and make me all He wants me to be.

Blessings~
