Review and PlanningPosted on Saturday 4 March 2006 at 11:27 AM in Homeschooling - Post CommentSchooling went pretty well this week. Everything that I wanted to cover was covered and we managed to have a little fun too. We are starting history, but I'm not crazy about the book so far. I have to keep reminding myself that it's more of a "reader" instead of an actual history lesson. I think next week we are going to spend our math time reviewing addition and subtraction problems since there are some that he is having some problems remembering. For the most part, though, he learns really quickly and so I need to keep things moving for him. The curriculum has been a good fit. Hubby is quite pleased.
Speaking of curriculum, I'm already starting to plan for second grade. Abeka is having their hotel meetings in our area this week and I'm trying to decide if it is worth it for me to pick up the curriculum now. I've heard that the prices are going up and that since they haven't had the old catalogs they are still going by the old prices. I don't know what the new prices are for the curriculum so I don't know if it is worth it to try and save some money by buying the curriculum now. I'm also considering whether I want to stick with Abeka for history. I've heard that Beautiful Feet is pretty good but I'd love to look at their stuff first. I'm hoping they'll be at the curriculum fair. I'm also considering starting Spanish in second grade. We do a little now with numbers, colors and basic phrases but I think I'd like to start actual lessons. I'm leaning toward Power-Glide's Junior Adventure Course at the moment. Anyway, that's where I'm at in my planning. We are nearly halfway done with first grade and I'm planning to have that finished by July or August so I have plenty of time to plan and ponder. |
