Help! Garden Slug Fest

Posted on Friday 1 June 2007 at 11:46 AM in Gardening - Post Comment

Ok...the slugs are invading my garden.  I don't use chemicals or pesticides so I'm at a loss for how to get rid of them.  Any suggestions?

That and I have to buy fence this weekend since the bunnies are chowing on my beans.  Grrrrr!!!

i understand that making a penny border around your plants will repel the slugs/snails. I was going to try that this year, but we moved instead!
for a fact i do know: ducks

Ducks

Ducks are the answer, alright. Wonderful little slug eaters.

Beer!
Take a small paper plate / foam plate, and fill it with beer. Slugs check in, but they don't check out!!

I've used the beer trick also - works good and I think they die happy :o) I put the beer in tuna cans and bury the cans up to the lip.
I hadn't heard of using pennies, but I have used copper tape which works good too. It is expensive though, so maybe I'll try some pennies!
Something else you might try is called Escar-go - my aunt uses it and says it works great and it is okay to use around pets and animals. Here is where she bought it if you want to check it out: http://www.gardensalive.com/product.asp?pn=2111&ss=escargo
Good luck getting rid of the little buggers!!
