While eating dinner in front of the TV watching Andy Griffith (yeah I know we should be at the table...but hubby was working late) Boo says, "WOW! What's that??" and jumps up after this quick moving thing on the carpet. Naturally...I see this quick moving thing scurrying across the floor and I jump even quicker up onto the couch with a great screech I'm sure hubby would have been proud of had he been here. Anyway...Boo and his great curiosity wanted to know what it was...so I bravely leaped off the couch and went to get a jar to capture the critter. We looked it up on the internet and we are now proud owners of a house centipede. It'll probably be a few days before I'll be able to sleep as I lie awake wondering how many more of these creepy bugs are hiding in our house.
I don't have a picture, but if you enjoy getting creeped out...you'll find pictures of our dearly departed guest here:

And here I thought you were going to say you had a "house mouse" on the run! :-D
We have been plagued with house centipedes for years, here. They just seem to adore living with us. (How fortunate for us).
Warning to the faint of heart... THEY EXPLODE.
That's right.
If you hit them (and they don't jump back at you -- VERY scary!), they seem to "explode" with legs resting everywhere within a ten inch radius.
Out of all our children, ages 1 1/2 to 16 1/2 yrs of age, I only have one who doesn't mind insects. However, these are the one thing he refuses to help eradicate.
*sigh*
So... it's still up to me to be a "warrior" on this front!
As an aside, I have a scary bug story, too: Last night, while I was relaxing in the tub (everyone in bed, the house quiet, waiting for my husband's return home from work -- he has 2nd shift), out of the corner of my eye I noticed a *big* greenish-yellow spider crawling about 5" away from my temple, on the wall.
I jumped out of that bath faster than I've moved in a LONG time (I am 7 mths pregnant, and don't move quite like I used to!) to get a wad of toilet paper, and capture the ghastly guest.... before sinking back into the water to try and deal with my heart rate!
Have a wonderful day!
Carrie
