Bread Spreads

Posted on Tuesday 20 March 2007 at 9:04 AM in In The Kitchen - Post Comment

Freshly-baked breads are a delicious addition to any meal, but they are even better when served with a flavored butter:

Spiced Butter:  Beat 1/2 cup soft butter or margarine with 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed to measure, 1/8 teaspoon each ground cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon.  Serve on warm toast.

Maple Butter:  Beat 1 cup soft butter or margarine at high speed with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.  Gradually add 1/2 cup pure maple syrup while beating constantly.  Serve at room temperature on warm bread.

Herbed Cheese Butter:  Beat 1/2 cup soft butter or margarine with 3/4 teaspoon dried tarragon leaves and 2 to 3 tablespoons finely grated parmesan cheese.  Serve on warm bread.

Honey Butter:  Beat 1/2 cup soft butter or margarine with 3 tablespoons honey and 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon.  Serve on warm bread.

Better Butter:  Beat 1/2 cup soft butter with 1/2 cup olive, canola or safflower oil.  Use in place of regular butter or margarine.  Flaxseed oil can be used if you are not going to cook with the butter.

Sounds fun.....

yumm, all of those sound good! We have a lot of fresh baked bread around here, so the spreads look like they are a tasty addition.
