Bread SpreadsPosted on Tuesday 20 March 2007 at 9:04 AM in In The Kitchen - Post Comment![]() Freshly-baked breads are a delicious addition to any meal, but they are even better when served with a flavored butter: Spiced Butter: Beat 1/2 cup soft butter or margarine with 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed to measure, 1/8 teaspoon each ground cloves, nutmeg and cinnamon. Serve on warm toast. Maple Butter: Beat 1 cup soft butter or margarine at high speed with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy. Gradually add 1/2 cup pure maple syrup while beating constantly. Serve at room temperature on warm bread. Herbed Cheese Butter: Beat 1/2 cup soft butter or margarine with 3/4 teaspoon dried tarragon leaves and 2 to 3 tablespoons finely grated parmesan cheese. Serve on warm bread. Honey Butter: Beat 1/2 cup soft butter or margarine with 3 tablespoons honey and 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon. Serve on warm bread. Better Butter: Beat 1/2 cup soft butter with 1/2 cup olive, canola or safflower oil. Use in place of regular butter or margarine. Flaxseed oil can be used if you are not going to cook with the butter.
