Happy Fat Tuesday! Paczki's anyone??

Yes, I'm Polish...and you can keep the Mardi Gras.  We have Fat Tuesday.  I grew up in the Metro Detroit area and on Fat Tuesday one of my FAVORITE things to do is go down to the Polish bakery Oaza's on Joseph Campau in Hamtramck and pick up a dozen...yes a dozen (sometimes more) paczki's.  If you didn't call in your order way before Fat Tuesday...you'll be eating doughnuts and not paczki's.  It's pronounced poonch-key.   A REAL paczki is so rich and yummy...made with LOTS of eggs.  Nothing like a doughnut.  And you've never had a REAL paczki unless it had rose jam or prune filling.

While there are some stores here in Indiana that will sell paczki's on Fat Tuesday...they just aren't the same.  So I make my own.  I make a huge mess, but it is so worth it.  I have a family recipe that I use.  And since tonight is Boo's Blue and Gold for Cub Scouts, I thought I would make some for the banquet.  I know it won't be the same as actually going to Oaza's, but it'll be close.

This is a recipe for paczki's from Food Network courtesy of Oaza's.  I'm tempted to try it but it makes 9 dozen!  That just screams belly ache to me.  lol    Definately not good for the diet.  And how do you figure out a quart of eggs and a half quart of sugared egg yolks??
