Yes...the coffee maker decided it didn't want to brew coffee anymore...right in the middle of brewing our morning coffee. It just stopped. Hubby and I are both big coffee drinkers and this is such a big blow. We live in an area where everything...including gas stations...are closed on Sunday so we can't just run out and pick something up. And tomorrow is Christmas. And I don't have a back up. I always wanted to have a stovetop coffee pot for camping and for emergencies...this is what I would classify as an emergency. So hubby checked consumer reports to see what they recommend...they recommend the exact same one we bought...that died when it wasn't even a year old...Braun Aromamaster KF400...I told hubby we're not getting that model or brand again no matter how well they rated it. Tuesday I'm going into town to the hardware store and getting a nice old fasioned stove top percolator. Since we live in an area with a very large Amish population, we the hardware stores have a huge selection of non-electric stuff and a good selection of stove top percolators. Hubby will be looking into a standard coffee maker to replace the one that died, I'll let you know what he decides on. In the mean time...hubby and I are going to try and manually pour hot water through the coffee maker and see if we can get a drinkable cup of coffee. I really should just switch to tea.

I brew coffee mostly only in the fall and winter. Here in Louisiana it is just too hot for it in the summer. But on the occassion that I do what some, I always keep a jar on instant coffee on hand. Its NOT the same but it does the trick.
On the bright side, an extra gift is coming to you, a new coffee pot. lol

My goodness....that is an emergency!! :O)LOL:O)
We've had something similar happen, only it was the carafe cracking....We recently were gifted with a french roast coffee press (I think that's what it's called) Boiling water and coffee put together and then you press the grounds out. The coffee tends to be pretty rich and sometimes a little strong (which my husband loves:O)
I hope you have a very blessed Christmas! And good luck with your stovetop percolater and new coffeemaker!
God bless,
Kelley
Our manual coffee maker

This will sound strange to most, but we haven't used a coffee maker for over two years now. Our last one died and I just didn't want another one to clutter the counter.
To make our morning coffee:
Bring to boil the desired amount of water. Turn off the heat and add the right amount of coffee. Let seep for about 1 minute. Using the filter holder from the last machine, I add a purchased plastic coffee filter inside and place the two over our coffee cups. Pour the desired amount and that's it.
The result is a wonderful, full-bodied coffee, and it takes less time to make.
