Halloween
We are ones who don't celebrate it. For us we see it as a time to celebrate all things ungodly and encourage greed. We have many good friends who do celebrate it, and I think for Christians each have to make their own decisions on it. For us it was something we felt was better not to celebrate. But we also know that since we have all these children (many with their parents) who willingly come to our door wanting us to give them something, we are happy to ablige. We use this time as an outreach and and opportunity to share the Love of Jesus with others. Normally we just pass out things other than candy that have a message about Jesus on them. A lot of these we get from Oriental Trading for really reasonable prices. We also get tracts from our local Christian bookstore. In addition to this we usually carve a pumpkin with a cross in it and have that lit up.
I'd really like to do more, I just have no idea what. I know a lot of Christian people who are very creative and resourceful when it comes to things like this. I've you've done things like this, I'd love to hear about some of the things you've done. In the mean time, I'm putting together an order at Oriental Trading for some things to pass out on Halloween.

We used to live in a neighborhood. One year we handed out candy. It didn't feel right.
One year we handed out candy and tracts. It didn't feel right.
One year we left candy and tracts out on a table on the porch, but didn't open the door. After some kids trashed our front porch......we decided this wasn't right either.
Scriputre say "come out and be separate" and "what does the light have to do with the darkness".
The last 2 years we lived in the neighborhood, we turned off the porch light, and didn't participate.
THAT was what was right. We we not rude, we were not ungodly. We simply chose to come out, be separate, and not try to turn something "dark" into something "ok".
That worked for us.
Now we live in the middle of the country, in the middle of 5 acres and don't have to worry about kids banging on the door!!

I do not like Halloween. My dd never understood the history of Halloween.. This year will be different she is old enough to understand about greed and just the evils of this "holiday." and the true meaning.
I never hand out candy to kids. My friend hands out bible tracks and they tell everyone that Jesus loves them. I think that is great. I personally do not live in a neighborhood where I want to answer the door. But maybe this is where they need that!?

...and not everyone may be called to do this but for our family we do feel we are called to do something...to witness to those who are celebrating the darkness of Halloween. These people are willingly coming to our door for us to give them something and we are happy to ablige by giving them an opportunity to meet Jesus. I honestly don't believe Jesus would sit inside and ingore what was going on outside, he would be out lighting up the darkness.
