A blast from the past, this post was originally posted last year on Thursday, August 18, 2005 on my old blog.
Matthew 1:1-2, The Genealogy of Jesus Christ (NKJV) 1 The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, the Son of Abraham: 2 Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers.
It goes on and finishes:
16 And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ. 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, from David until the captivity in Babylon are fourteen generations, and from the captivity in Babylon until the Christ are fourteen generations.
My cousin and I are currently working on mapping out our family genealogy. We've been able to trace our grandmother's family right back to Mayflower passenger William White and his son Resolved. From there we have Wheeler's, Wilder's, Akeley's, Arter's, Durlin's and Boudreau's. It's so interesting to learn a little bit about these family members who came before me. Some stories are good, some are tragic.
It also has me thinking about what kind of history I'm going to leave behind for my children, grand children, great-grand children. What are they going to read or hear about my life? What kind of legacy am I going to pass on? I want to be remembered for being kind and loving, prayerful, having a strong faith in the Lord and a passion for sharing it with everyone.
2 Timothy 1:3-5, Timothy’s Faith and Heritage (NKJV) 3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience, as my forefathers did, as without ceasing I remember you in my prayers night and day, 4 greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy, 5 when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.
I honestly don't think there is a greater gift we can give to the family members that come after us than leaving them a legacy of our faith in Jesus Christ. Hugs!
